@DaraghCassidy This is woke gone mad. It's a mindless offence against heritage and legacy. The formal front lawn was designed in the 17th Century to be just that. Lots of other spaces within the College curtileges that can be "wilded."

@cpkeena Every good wish on retirement Paul. Hard to know where those years have gone. You were always one of the "solid" core ..... Tom McDowell wasn't the "owner" of the Irish Times though. It's been owned 100% by the Trust since 1974. He was a 20% shareholder in The Irish Times Ltd.

As if our @AGSI_Ireland @gardainfo colleagues haven’t enough challenges.A Garda member stands on duty, lawfully doing his job..an elected representative falsely accuses him of providing private security, uses his image & subjects him to on line abuse. This is so very wrong!

A wonderful day last Thursday, where we had the joy of conferring @MaryCrilly7, @orlatinsley, @cmcgettrick and @ConorPMBrady with NUI honorary degrees for the great social, political and cultural impacts that they have made in their respective fields.

This morning I was called to the Bar of Ireland by the Chief Justice. This has been the most challenging but rewarding experience of my life. Officially Molly Scott BL. A day I will never forget.

@ConorGallaghe_r Common practice in allocating code names to agents since Victorian times ….. pick an everyday term and insert an error: thus “daffodil” might be given as “daffadil”; “Caledonia” might be given as “Calidonia.” A simple safety/security filter.

I see Stakeknife has died. I've always meant to ask, why was it Stakeknife and not Steakknife?

@MartinDoyleIT Some issue arose between Smylie and Gus Weldon who owned The Pearl. Gus was extremely strict in his standards for the house and wouldn’t tolerate crude language for example. I think the animus may have arisen because one of the less well-behaved among Smylie’s followers offended.

@MartinDoyleIT The Palace became the watering hole of choice for RM Smylie and his acolytes after a dispute with the “Pearl” across the street (“the cultured pearl”) in the 1940s. The antagonism persisted into the 1970s when I joined the Irish Times.

@MartinDoyleIT Maybe this thing about the best English being spoken in Dublin is a bit like the late (UK Labour MP and minister) Dick Crossman’s saying that The Irish Times is “the best Times on this side of the Atlantic”! Nice to think it might be true. Hard to prove one way or another!!!!
