@Noddy12347 @MyFootballCoach It’s not just how tall the dad is, how many sons are smaller than their mums 🤔. Late developers need to be given time, let maturation take place. Biological, physical, psychological and emotional.

When he was my boss at Tottenham Hotspur, John McDermott used to say: “The best player at 9 is rarely the best player at 16.” It highlights the old question of performance vs potential. In academy football we still place too much emphasis on performance at younger ages, when development should be the priority. Sometimes we simply need to be patient and give young players more time.

@Tactx_ I keep seeing Arteta is really brave giving him minutes, he’s probably actually being over cautious with him - he’s going to have to start him regularly soon - Owen & Rooney were ready and excelled

The case for Dowman will soon stop being 'when do you put him in' to 'how can you leave him out'.

Bravery of Brilliant Bruno All Midfielders should take note, especially from a creative aspect and get away from this obsession with Pass Completion and be focussed on: - Breaking Lines - Progressive Packing Passes - Creating Chances for Teammates This is from an interview on @footballontnt by @rioferdy5 and touches on why Bruno Fernandes is the Most Creative Midfielder in Modern Football. Here he talks about: - Influence of DiNatale at Udinese - Willingness to Try the "Final Pass" - Doesn't Care About "Missed Passes" He has one of the lowest passing accuracies in the Premier League for his position but: - Most Assists (16); Next Highest is 8 - Most Big Chances Created (24); Next Highest is 17 Above all that is the way he speaks about his understanding of teammates: > Rashford Wants it into Space > Cunha Wants it to feet more > Zirkzee Wants to Combine with 1-2's A lesson for all young footballers wanting to be a midfielder making a real difference 👌

Nine Golden Rules 1 - Never press alone. Pressing press together or don't press at all. 2 - Numbers decide the action. Outnumber them → pass. Outnumbered → dribble. 3 - Cross early. Deliver before the defence is organised and your forwards are on the move. 4 - Straight pass → diagonal run. Diagonal pass → straight run. 5 - Move the defender first. Then make the movement you actually want. 6 - Win your 1v1s. Dominate them and you dominate the game. 7 - Do what your opponent hates most. 8 - Create overloads. Avoid being overloaded. 9 - Most goals are one-touch finishes. Shoot before the goalkeeper is ready. What should be rule 10? #SundayShare @SundayShare10 @CarlWild75 @RJPcoach @CraigRudders @power_ray @insidewrite1957 @Coach_Osku @coach_kevin_m @JustcoachMD @JB_SoccerCoach @tactica1thinker @TheS_Resource @BreakthruSoccer @ben_andreos @globrod

@MyFootballCoach Only have to go to EPPP tournaments 13-16s every squad stacked with early maturated lads, a few less developed floating around mostly spending more time on the bench (as such less opportunity to develop)

One of the biggest challenges in youth development is separating early maturity from real long-term potential. Some players dominate early because they are bigger or more physically developed. But football history shows us time and again that late developers often become the best players if they’re given patience and the right environment.

It’s been clear for a while he’s a generational talent - I wonder how long before Arteta starts him and if Tuchel takes him to the World Cup- we’ve seen it with Rooney & Owen tournaments can be lite up by teenagers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️

Declan Rice went out of his way to give the ball to Max Dowman as soon as he came on. The likely PFA Player of the Year. Going out of his way to give a 16 year old the ball with 15 minutes to go with the title on the line. Come on. This is unprecedented.

@MyFootballCoach The key word is yet - what does the player look like at 20-21 not as a kid unfortunately very few look at anything other than the last game

As player developers, what qualities are we really looking for? I’ve worked in academies where the focus was heavily on technical development, and others where physical attributes dominated the conversation. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Physicality is clearly a key pillar of the modern game — you can’t get away from that. But too many young players are cast aside because they “can’t get around the pitch” yet. Surely some of these players just need more time to develop.
