Go way to back when my wife and I were dating. I'm staying at her place. She wakes me up in the middle of the night because she "heard something." I get out of bed, get my pistol and flashlight from my pants. She didn't know I had it until she heard me do a press check in the dark.
So I clear her house. Nothings there. Go back to bed. In the next 2 decades she never "heard something" again.
The morning after she said "You got your gun, but why didn't you put any clothes on?"

@FuestingJason @Sargon_of_Akkad America doesn’t have an ethnic identity in the same way as most western countries do. Anyone can assimilate and become American because American isn’t an ethnicity. So a person can assimilate and become British but they can’t be English. You have to be born English.

Put another way, I can call myself an American, but I can't call myself a Southerner. I wasn't born in the South, I didn't grow up there, and spending a few years in Virginia while in the Navy didn't magically grant me magically.
Granted, the way we see that kinda thing over here is a bit different so I might be misreading/misinterpretting.

Guess what- most English or British people don’t look to China for what their nationhood has to mean. Your view of Englishness is stunted and hollow. Englishness has always been both heritage and home. An ethnicity yes, but also being part of a civic, not only ethnic nation. Saying it’s only about blood is old fashioned far right poison.
