In #MadhyaPradesh, a planted fake news story has triggered a relentless witch-hunt against young changemakers (most of them Hindus) who are being targeted by the extremist right wing groups,the #Police and a section of the #media under baseless allegations of religious conversion to Christianity, simply for engaging in social work in a remote village. In Shukrawasa, a village tucked deep inside the Jungle in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, a quiet revolution was underway. A group of young professionals --an NEET topper, an MBA, a filmmaker, a journalist, a dancer and a student -- had come together with one goal, to change lives. Over five years,they opened a free and modern dispensary,ensured access to healthcare, improved sanitation, revived the panchayat, and helped villagers claim their rights, from quality education to clean water and electricity. They taught unlettered women how to read and write, spoke to men and women about hygiene, and worked side by side with locals to build a model village powered by awareness and inclusion.Their work had the full support of the villagers. Anywhere else in the world, they would have been celebrated as role models. But in #MadhyaPradesh, they were branded as criminals, brutally assaulted and humiliated by right-wing extremists, accused of religious conversion, relentlessly harassed and hounded by the police and media all because they dared to bring change to a neglected village in this country.
