We should have a government policy of 80% of journeys being by foot, bike, or public transport within 5 years. And 100% of buses, cars, lorries, trains, and vans being electric within 10 years. Everyone will be happier apart from the oil companies.

X has filed an appeal against the EU’s €120 million fine issued under the Digital Services Act. The appeal has been lodged with the General Court of the European Union, challenging the first non-compliance fine imposed on a social media platform under the Act. In recent months, European governments have intensified their crackdown on social media platforms that promote free speech — particularly X. The Trump administration has criticised the Digital Services Act as a censorious law that unfairly targets US businesses and suppresses the free speech of citizens. The Act also formed the basis of a visit by the US House Judiciary Committee to several European cities last summer to investigate online censorship. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio banned five EU officials from visiting the United States shortly after the fine was issued in December, claiming the EU was attempting to “censor” American firms. We are seeing similar developments in the UK. The Online Safety Act was introduced as domestic legislation to protect children from online harms. In practice, however, Ofcom — the Act’s regulator — is asserting extraterritorial ambitions that risk encroaching on the First Amendment rights of US citizens. If a company is found to have breached Ofcom’s guidelines, it can be fined £18 million or 10 per cent of its annual global turnover — whichever is higher. The UK Government has even said that it would be willing to ban X from operating in the country and restrict access for British users. X’s appeal is therefore a significant test of whether the Digital Services Act is compatible with European free speech protections. The outcome could set important precedents for enforcement, penalty calculations, and the protection of fundamental rights.
Global Government Affairs@GlobalAffairs

X Files Appeal Against €120M EU Fine Under Digital Services Act X filed an appeal at the General Court of the European Union challenging the €120 million fine imposed by the European Commission on 5 December 2025, the first non-compliance fine under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This EU Decision resulted from an incomplete and superficial investigation, grave procedural errors, a tortured interpretation of the obligations under the DSA, and systematic breaches of rights of defence and basic due process requirements suggesting prosecutorial bias. This landmark case is the first judicial challenge to a DSA fine and could set important precedents for enforcement, penalty calculations, and fundamental rights protections under the 2022 regulation. X remains committed to user safety and transparency while defending our users' access to the only global town square.

Remember when The Hundred was specifically designed to attract cricket fans from the British Pakistani community because it would shake off the "pale, stale and male" image of county cricket and the England team?

📣 We’ve had to temporarily disable our website following a cyber attack by a militant pro-trans organisation that openly boasts about breaking the law and encourages its supporters to steal hammers and take ‘direct action’ against Members of Parliament. We’ve launched a donations page on Stripe, a secure payment processor, to cover the cost of responding to this attack (beyond what is covered by insurance) and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Any donations would be hugely appreciated. Please see the link below 👇

@desjohnston @thefulltoss You'd think so, but apparently throwing them into Tests after watching the rain fall in some meaningless hit and wish in a completely different country (or dragging them off the physio couch before breaking them and returning them to said couch) is the way forward...

So a 1-4 defeat to the worst Australia team since 2010/11. Indisputable considering their injuries. I’ve never felt lower about English cricket. Could it have been different? Undoubtedly. Our poor prep & brain-dead batting lost us the key moments that swing games. Yet the ECB…

@thefulltoss Embarrassing shots by both Pope and Crawley, mistiming an on-the-up drive against a county trundler. They must play bowling like this all the time in first class cricket. Ah, I'm beginning to see the problem...

Consistency of selection is all very well, but what if you consistently back the wrong players? Crawley and Pope have both played 60+ Tests and average 31 and 35 respectively. We’ve long suspected the former is too flawed and the latter just, well, average. Yet England persisted.

Would fiddle with anything as a kid. Visited my uncle who was dying from cancer and saw a community nurse update what I would later find out was a morphine driver. Started pressing all the buttons when she left the room. Uncle died that evening. Think I may have overdosed him.

@AndyGoode10 Nonsense. What's he supposed to do when he's one step away, pull out, not wrap and make contact? It's a card if he does that. Flankers are always going to hit high numbers a fraction after the kick.
