We experienced an outage at Coinbase last night, which is never acceptable. The root cause was a room overheating in an AWS datacenter when multiple chillers failed. We design our services to be redundant to downtime in any one AWS Availability Zone (AZ), and most of our systems worked this way last night, but not all. Our centralized exchange did not. Exchanges have unique architectures that optimize for latency and co-location of clients. It is possible to make exchanges resistant to AZ failures, but this can introduce latency delays that are not desirable along with breaking customer co-location. Given this incident, we'll revisit these tradeoffs to ensure we're giving you the best possible venue to trade. At a minimum, the duration of an outage should be able to be reduced considerably when an AZ move is needed. Thank you to the AWS and Coinbase teams for working through the night to mitigate the issue. We’ll share the detailed technical summary once it's ready.

If you hate products because they use AI you aren’t fighting for artists or other peoples jobs, you are virtue signaling and jealous. AI CREATES jobs for artists. I’ll use myself as an example: I’m 40 years old, running a product based startup that I am bootstrapping with revenue from a service based startup. I also have a 10 year old. This means I have almost zero spare time in my life. AI has made it possible for me to produce a playable game that I’ve got a half dozen people playtesting every week for me to make improvements to (that’s real gamedev by the way, finding the fun has little to do with the syntax of the code you’re writing or the perfection of each pixel, Vampire Survivors taught us that). To say that I shouldn’t be able to make games because YOU find AI distasteful is elitist and gatekeeping in the extreme, and resembles the behavior of every bully I’m sure you’ve encountered in your life. Further, I’m creating revenue for the artists you say you support. I’ve already commissioned thousands of dollars in music and art for the final pieces of the game that are ready for that, and have $6k set aside for capsule art and a trailer. Money that would never have gone to artists if I weren’t able to build most of the game myself with AI. Most of the artists I know HATE it when people vocally espouse hateful and negative views about others until those views affect them personally but then say things like “AI is fine if it’s just for programming”…because they want to use AI to close a skill gap they don’t have and are justifying that…just like the people they say they despise. Next time you’re going to blindly hate on AI, think about what is ACTUALLY happening in the games space rather than whatever you read on Reddit this week.

def not black and white problem I get it from that point of view, agree. but then make it universal not just about gen ai and game dev. there is so much you >dont know< about whatever you consume which may be even worse than generating couple lines of code or pictures for a video game.

@VahnAeris @CrusaderCode @Grummz there's a lot to unpack with that, but I'm sure I would rather use up the clean water on people than AI. a few arguments could be used for the AI, but at some point it's not about cost.

I don’t care if a game uses gen AI. I care that the game is good. I do agree it should be disclosed, but the problem is every studio is lying because they all use AI now with few exceptions - this was confirmed by two journalists already. So I can’t get “really mad” at studios for not labeling their AI use because it’s just a huge penalty for being honest when everyone else is lying. It’s like view botting on twitch md laying clippers. Everybody does it, and because everyone does it, you would be stupid not to because the playing field is not level or fair and you would take a hit.

I've spent the past few weeks reading 100s of public data sources about AI development. I now believe that recursive self-improvement has a 60% chance of happening by the end of 2028. In other words, AI systems might soon be capable of building themselves.

@craig_inkdrift @thomasbrushdev The Googling one is the blurriest line right now. Anyone using Google is benefitting massively from AI, especially since they upgraded it to be able to read the scripts of every video tutorial on youtube and summarize the parts that are relevant to your question and link them.

My business is registered in Austria, and it's probably the worst place in Europe for solopreneurs You will pay 50% of all your income when you reach €83k/year (which is a very mid income for Austria) The social security system in Austria is progressive as well It caps at €90k a year, but expect to pay 40% of your income as social security benefits The funniest part? It covers even less than the regular employee insurance. You'll still need to pay 30% of the cost of your doctor visits, while employees receive coverage at no cost. The system rips you off and discourages you from visiting doctors and caring about your health. High PIT and social security are the reasons why a lot of businesses in Austria go cash and hide money from the state. This obviously only works for physical businesses and things like coaching or consulting. As an owner of a digital business, you have no choice but to carry the whole burden of the system. The system wants you to create a GmbH (local LLC), hire yourself and employees, and pay them a salary. Obviously, this is not an option when you just want to build businesses solo. All of the Austrian solo founders I know are not tax residents here anymore and live elsewhere. I changed the way I prompt when vibecoding Tiny Skies. Instead of telling the AI model how to do or implement something the way I want, I describe what I want the end result to look like. This leaves room for the AI model to choose its own approach, you get results it's actually optimised and trained for, which almost always means better output. This mirrors the usual team management 101 playbook: when briefing a team member, don't prescribe the method and let them figure out the best way to achieve the goal. As AI gets meaningfully better at coding in the recent months, I've stopped micromanaging the implementation and started focusing on the outcome I'm after. The latest frontier models have earned a longer leash and many times I have been surprised at how good it is.

Microsoft is working on a Windows 11 update codenamed Windows K2 with a focus on improving gaming performance and reducing bloatware, according to @WindowsCentral They are using SteamOS as a benchmark for performance. It will also lower idle memory use and less AI clutter.

@NielsRogge Not to defend slop, but ForgeCode and multiple others ranked in the top few were shown to be gaming tb2 using prompt injections / system prompt hints to boost their scores. We still beat CC without needing any gimmicks tho 😼 harness is everything @droid
