A family was caught on camera being scammed by illegal taxi touts at Heathrow Terminal 5 this week. They’d just landed with their kids when an unauthorised driver approached them and quoted £190 for a trip to a Holiday Inn in Kensington. When they pushed back, the price dropped to £150. Then £120 for the family of four to Paddington. None of it through a meter, none of it through a proper booking system. It’s illegal for anyone other than a licensed black cab to pick up unbooked passengers at a UK airport. These touts don’t carry the proper insurance - meaning if anything happens to you in their car, you’re not covered. TfL and the Met run regular operations at Heathrow to clamp down on this exact behaviour. Always use the official taxi rank outside each terminal. Or book a licensed cab through an app like Uber or Bolt before you land. Two individuals each earning £60,000 a year, take home a combined monthly income of £7,659. In contrast, a single person earning £120,000 a year takes home £6,343 per month, despite earning the same gross amount. The UK Tax system is harsh on high earners, this is my only complain about the UK system.
