[5-Step AI Art Detection Guide] So you’re thinking of collecting, or you’ve already collected what could potentially be AI Art (that was previously, or is currently being marketed as 100% hand-drawn). Now what? Step 1. Contact the artist. This is the most important step in discovering the truth. If they are reachable via DM, reach out this way. Be upfront: “Is this AI Art?”. Still not convinced? Was the artist too ambiguous in their methods?👇 Step 2. Request Proof-of-Work. Normally this wouldn’t be required. But we are living in different times now, and artists, especially digital, should be ready to provide such proof. (Best proof is a creative process video, and second would be a step-by-step in how the art was created - stay alert though - their step-by-steps could also be false. (This is rare to my knowledge, but it is something I’ve seen. Remember: a creative process video is king, and everything else comes second.) Step 3. Scan the artwork visually for anomalies. A lot of AI art is hyper detailed without being detailed at all. Look for discrepancies in the artwork itself. Ask yourself: Could this be Artist error, or could this be machine generated? It helps to have already played with AI Art generators such as mid journey or stable diffusion in order to better understand the artwork they produce. Step 4. Ask a friend or Ask another artist. Gather multiple opinions on whether or not your friends think the work is AI themselves. Show them the discrepancies you have discovered, and express all reasons you may have doubt. Step 5. Run the art through an AI Art detector. My current favorites are: - The Hive AI and Hugging Face AI Detector. (These are still in the making and are not 100% accurate, but still is an important step in building your case) Still not convinced? Don’t engage in the artist and their work any further. You may voice your opinion publicly for debate, but that is under your discretion and not my formal advice. And just remember: AI art is okay. Lying is not. P.S. It also helps to check out Artist history. Do they have work from before AI? (We can check that now) If they do, they’re probably legit. But still continue to investigate and DYOR if you have doubts.
