Due to the recent storm and widespread power outages our community has experienced, spring 2024 final exams for seniors will be waived. Any senior needing to take the final exam to improve his/her overall average may contact the director of instruction on their campus. Exams for underclassmen, grades 9-11, will continue as scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday of next week.

All CFISD schools and facilities will remain closed on Tuesday, May 21. Despite the extraordinary efforts of CenterPoint Energy and our CFISD teams, we still have 16 campuses, 2 transportation centers, and 1 early learning center without power. Additionally, several large communities in the Cy-Fair area continue to be without power, and we know that this presents significant challenges for many of our CFISD staff. Friday’s missed school day will not need to be made up due to the inclement weather minutes built into the CFISD school calendar. We will be requesting that TEA grant us a waiver for additional missed days due to the effects of Thursday night’s storm. Schools, program sponsors, and coaches will be communicating directly with you regarding schedule changes for activities and final exams. Like you, we are eager to reopen our doors to our staff, our students, and our community, just as soon as it is safe to do so. We will provide another update on Tuesday through our district website, social media channels, and SchoolMessenger. Thank you so much for your continued patience during this recovery period.

Losing is never fun and winners fight to win until the end. However, learning to fail and recover while showing class and sportsmanship is a vital life skill that sports SHOULD teach. Worthwhile read below.
Alan Stein, Jr.@AlanSteinJr

With less than 30 seconds left in Double Overtime of the 2015 WCAC Conference Championship... and the game out of reach... Coach Mike Jones called a time-out. Our team dejectedly huddled up... and you could tell from their facial expressions and body language that we knew we were going to lose. Why would Coach Jones call a time out in a game we couldn’t win? To make sure he taught our team a lesson they would carry with them for the rest of their lives. “Please pick your heads up and look at me. We are obviously not going to win tonight. We let this one get away. It’s OK to be disappointed and upset, I know I am. But it is not OK to show poor sportsmanship. We will lose with class, we will lose with our heads high, and we will lose graciously. They outplayed us tonight. No excuses. This program is about much more than you and much more than how you are feeling in this moment. We will learn from this and choose to use it as fuel moving forward.” Then the team took the court and played hard until the final buzzer. There was nothing fun about watching their fans storm the court, seeing their players and coaches celebrate with unparalleled elation, and hoisting the championship trophy overhead for the cameras. But there was a quiet inner peace in knowing that we lost with class. Life is full of ups and downs. And handling the downs with poise and grace speaks volumes of your character. While losing is never fun… losing with class is what champions do. This mindset and approach isn’t confined to basketball. It’s true in every area of life.
