We live in a world with planes and passports, if people with wealth and the skills to earn it are pressed too hard, they just leave the country. I am currently working overseas, because I am thankfully skilled enough to have the freedom to do so, and it's very refreshing to be able to live a comfortable and happy life without being taxed out the arsehole.

@implausibleblog Nearly half of all income tax is paid by 5% of the working population. Nearly 30% is paid by the top 1% Every tax increase or anti-rich policy passed is more of these people leaving the country. Welfare has already surpassed total tax take, this tactic has already failed.
