Anyway, capital gains should be taxed like ordinary income.

Protesters are standing outside JPMorgan Chase in New York this weekend, holding giant banners that say “STOP ELON • NO TRILLIONAIRES” and “ELON IS STEALING YOUR PENSION”
These people are protesting the greatest success story in modern history. Let’s look at the actual reality:
• Elon has already paid more in taxes than almost anyone alive
• Tesla and SpaceX employ well over 100,000 people and actively push humanity forward.
• Through DOGE, he already helped cut billions in wasteful government spending. That saved taxpayers hundreds of billions.....meaning he actually helped secure grandmas' pensions by slashing bureaucracy, not the other way around.
• Friday's historic SpaceX IPO didn't "steal" from anyone. It created massive value, turned everyday workers into millionaires, and rightfully made him the world’s first trillionaire
He didn’t steal anything. He built it from the ground up
His companies have created massive job growth, accelerated sustainable energy, and are literally building the infrastructure to make humanity multi-planetary
Rather than celebrating excellence, demanding the government punish it is pure evil

@JOBhakdi All of a sudden leftists are using math. Could have been useful before we got $40 trillion in debt.

TAX THE TRILLIONAIRES!
Here is why:
If California would tax Elon 50% of his wealth, that would add $550 BILLION for the California budget (instead of going to Mars and build infinity intelligence, which is useless anyway because no one needs intelligence, duh).
This could make a HUGE difference for Californians. Experts calculated that within 5 years, the state could
* buy 2 homeless people a bed (shared)
* complete 1 mile of high speed train tracks
* buy 50 million pre-signed mail-in ballots, including on-time delivery for the next 2 elections.
That's why we need a trillionaire tax.
NOW.

@mcuban We might not agree on the means, but I’m glad to hear you have identified the root of the problem - true price discovery for medical care and procedures must happen first. How inflated do you think it is because of our current insurance “system”?
English

Actually, some form of Universal Care could be cheaper, offer better care, and be less bureaucratic.
But the Democrats think if you just write the legislation, that makes it so. It doesn't
Because other countries do it, it must be easy for us to do it.
Problem in this country is no one really knows what medical care or drugs cost.
Everything related to the cost of care has been made intentionally opague. It's a business strategy at every step. Every healthcare contract has a confidentially clause.
Hospitals don't know how to allocate costs to determine their true cost
If you don't know what the cost of what the government wants to buy from you, and the government doesn't know what the fully burdened cost they will pay is. And we don't know how high end hospitals can offer the same level of care at Medicare pricing. Etc etc etc
And of course every insurance company and big hospital system will tie up the legislation in courts for decades.
Ideology is not a strategy. Until there is transparency so a budget can be attempted , and the influence of the huge HC conglomerates is diminished , universal healthcare isn't achievable.

@mcuban I still cannot believe Americans think MfA will make healthcare less bureaucratic and cheaper. Because government bloat isn’t a problem in every department!?

@FurkanGozukara Do the eggs come from communist chickens or capitalist chickens?

🚨 BREAKING: Mayor Zohran Mamdani drops a massive bombshell! He officially announces the opening of NYC's first-ever city-run grocery stores in El Barrio and the Bronx.
The administration is boldly bypassing corporate greed to guarantee affordable food for all!

🚨 MASSIVE DEVELOPMENT: Judge Vilda Mayuga confirms Mayor Mamdani deposited a staggering $20M into Ponce Bank branches in the Bronx. This brilliant move bypasses Wall Street to directly strengthen community banking and expand economic opportunity for Latinos!

If you can’t tax billionaires and trillionaire because “its unrealized gains until they cash out,” then stop letting them leverage that wealth for loans, as collateral, or as equity.
If it’s not real enough to tax, it shouldn’t be real enough to leverage.
This is why we say the system is rigged in favor of the super wealthy. Abolish billionaires, tax them out of existence, protect working people.
English

@Fat_Electrician We failed at math already by having a $40,000,000,000,000 debt.
English

@dchidyllo @rushicrypto Correct. But good luck educating people about fractional reserve banking.
English

The problem is not taxation, millionaires, billionaires or anything else; the issue is money printing and liquidity expansion which is what devalues everybody in the bottom 50%. People would never care how much anyone else had if the dollars they held always increased in purchasing power. That is the root cause of the all these convos and never gets talked about.
English

I know a lot of billionaires don’t have an income and that’s how they get away with not paying taxes. They just borrow against their assets instead, like stocks.
Can we just … ban that? Like no more borrowing against stocks or assets. That way they’d actually have to sell their assets to use them and make an income. Then we can properly tax them.
Just a thought. Genuine question.
English

Common sense would be to first get rid of waste, fraud, abuse; use Ai to make government a lot more efficient; enforce legal immigration and residency; limit welfare to two years per lifetime of every able bodied/minded adult….and then figure out how to collect more taxes (if necessary) to pay for the things that will better a whole society.
