More people would be pro datacenter if every one had a beautiful open-to-the-public heated pool.

@nkrosse There is a little wisdom here wat if data centers became a community hub for youth to get computer and Internet access for free like a modern day library

@EddGorenstein @Birdyword Needs to go full roman bath complex. Library, bath, courtyard/gym. Throw in some classrooms and free AI tokens for the commujity. Chefs kiss

@Birdyword Ancient Greek temple says "Come on in. This is a place of worship." which is rather at odds with what a data centre is actually for. Late medieval keep says "No enemy is allowed in. We keep data very safe in here." which is actually great marketing for whatever company runs it.

Many people do not seem to want data centres built near them, despite the fact that they don't cause that much traffic and often generate a lot of local tax revenue. I suspect it's partly because they're ugly! My proposal:

@TheJoeBeamer I get like 20% off my flight if it has a New York based connection vs any other major hub in the US. Still not worth connecting rofl

@j4_v_3s @Windows I don't know because I've used Linux for like 30 years and I'm bored. Maybe if Linux didn't continue to produce the world's worst desktop environments, where literally XFCE is the best I can find and that was created 20 years ago.

Why can't @Windows just have Bash? I know they offer bash through WSL but that seems to just cause problems. I really think Windows should just have a native Unix user space. They can do it. They control the kernel. They can fix whatever they want. Mac did it. They give you Darwin with its crappy user space and people tolerate that. I seriously just don't get why Windows doesn't make the command line more Unix friendly. It seems completely doable. I feel like with the success of WSL they should at this point realize how important it is for developers to have a Unix command line. I think this is a legitimately good idea and that Microsoft should listen to me. 😄 And it's doable now only because they do have WSL which will give you full linux capability.

@zanehengsperger I've been thinking about something like this recently also. I think companies need to start recording internal egocentric data ASAP. It won't be long before it can be used for training and operation insights

If I could fund a single company that doesn’t exist right now it would be… Machine Maintenance as a Service $222B/year in the US is spent on machine maintenance or repair. Features would include: - quarterly PMs on machines - full service history with access to service history of other exact machines - predictive from sensors or cameras - instant buy spare parts from online store - operator training module - access to AI chat bot (ik cringe) that knows your machine inside out This would be an incredible bet as robotics scale and maintenance is inevitable. I’d hire the oldest guys with the most amount of tribal knowledge. Every single repair or process would be documented with data points and feed into our system correlated to a specific machine.

@DanielleFong That's the same clothes and haircut my PE teacher had. I can still feel the horrific ropeburn I got when showboating after a particularly triumphant climb.

@Noahpinion Tax the heavy data usage states that refuse to allow data centers they intend to be using. They shouldn't be allowed to to have their cake and eat it without incurring any of the cost. Externalizing the cost shouldn't be freely rewarded

@treadon @Polymarket Right? Externalizing the cost while fully intending to enjoy the fruits is pretty gross. There should be a tiered system. States that ban them should have to pay high fees for consumption. Especially since they will probably be consuming the most

@Polymarket Then it's only fair that they place a ban on internet data center consumption.

@Polymarket Can states that allow data centers tax the states that block data centers for their compute usage? Seems wrong for them to have their cake and eat it too

The transformation of liberals into "progressives" since 2013 has seriously been the worst thing to happen to American culture in my lifetime. Just absolutely gutted so much of what was good about this country. End of a golden age.

@bayfun4u2 @DrTurleyTalks Also we were planning on bombing Tokyo prior to pearl harbor but couldn't pull it together due to supply chain issues before it didn't matter anymore. They got us before we got them

@DrTurleyTalks Not covered by history lessons, but our cutting off Japan’s oil supply was what provoked Japan’s response. No shame in that. Trump now using oil for reshaping the world. Venezuela was 4% of China’s discounted oil supply. Iran is another 14% under Trump control.

@rehmee @MrsCMFrancis Yeah, I could tell Portland was getting colonized when the local government started renaming our streets after sketchy Californians they had deified. This isn't that bit of news for anyone who has done their homework on the guy. Think they'll do the same for Milk?
