@FIFABrit @ArmchairGM99 Very random then, though possibly just generally indicative of their unreliable/inaccurate statistics 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yet another example of why Opta’s monopoly on football data needs ending The OFFICIAL OPTA ACCOUNT just claimed that this Madueke header came from a long throw So much money hinges on their decisions… and there’s no way to challenge them if we disagree
Opta Analyst@OptaAnalyst

@One_Der0 Madueke's header at Brentford came after a throw-in that travelled far enough to qualify as a 'long throw' according to our definition (see article)

@DBop86 @ArmchairGM99 The problem here is I don’t know of any gambling markets involving scoring from a long throw I cannot see how anyone would benefit either way from ruling this as a long throw goal

@ArmchairGM99 @FIFABrit Given that Opta receive direct funding from bookies, it’s in their interest to benefit the companies that pay them 🤷🏻‍♂️

@FIFABrit What possible explanation could they have for getting this wrong? They have to be rigging it on purpose, it's that bad.

@FIFABrit I looked into this a while ago when I got shafted by Opta stats - it turns out they receive a lot of funding from bookmakers, so it’s in Opta’s financial interest to screw punters to benefit the bookies. Massive conflict of interest there - dunno how it’s allowed 🤷🏻‍♂️

@DBop86 @amazingmap Yes, it’s Cromartyshire that has the unusual boundaries - 23 separate pieces! We tend to write it as ‘Ross-shire’, for ease of reading, the same with Inverness-shire and Kinross-shire…

@RealCounties @amazingmap Wow, Ross-shire & Cromartyshire have some crazy boundaries/enclaves - I bet there’s some interesting history behind that. Also, is it Ross-shire or Rossshire? I’ve seen both used - is it like “Earl’s Court” vs “Earls Court”? 😅

@charise_lee The irony of Trump being unhappy at the media giving him bad coverage is that by UK & European standards, all US media (on all sides) softball their interviews with politicians If you compare the questions they get in the UK vs US, it’s much more robust & interrogative in the UK

@RealCounties @amazingmap I honestly didn’t realise that Rossshire & Cromartyshire were one county until now - my aunt lives there & I’ve been many dozens of times but only ever recall seeing Ross-shire on signs & addresses for some reason. Probably wasn’t paying close enough attention 😅

@amazingmap Remarkable statistic - and a reminder of the sheer scale of places like Loch Ness in wonderful Inverness-shire. Scotland’s landscapes really do operate on a different scale! 😲

@Taroulex @beyoncegarden 1) It’s entirely possible to quantify, given that it’s economic policy so you have any number of metrics you can use to judge this. 2) You’re correct, but this can be measured (similar to the above). As a general rule, many of the interests of the 1% don’t align w/the bottom 50%

@beyoncegarden the stupid left's dishonest questions - e.g. "name a policy ... that benefited the lower and middle more than the 1%" 1) benefited more/less is almost impossible to quantify/compare in relative terms 2) someone benefiting MORE doesn't mean you didn't benefit/improve greatly

@PeterStefanovi2 Yes, tariff & insult your allies & expect their help when you start a war because Israel were going to do it first - it makes perfect sense. If the war has been won, why is the Straight of Hormuz still closed & why are you asking for others’ help? 🤔 Such genius on display 😂

Now had to sprint to take public transport & risk exposing him to germs which could delay the surgery. The worst service I’ve ever experienced. An absolute joke. Honestly considering all the options to take at this point.

@UberUKI_Support pre-booked a taxi to take my child to hospital for heart surgery this morning & 10 mins AFTER the booking was due to collect us, got a message saying “couldn’t connect to a driver” - WTF is going on?! Ppl pre-book for a reason - absolute 🐕 💩 service.

@talkSPORT I should note, the above isn’t a judgement comment on whether racing is good or bad, just that whether going through this experience would change people’s position on racing.

@talkSPORT One of my jobs used to include making compilation of all the fatalities/incidents leading to death over the course of a year for the BHA - it was always a depressing fortnight. I’d be curious to see how people would feel if they had to do the same thing.

@oaedoel @lewis_goodall Given that you already have local councils/councillors who deal with local issues, maybe an alternative approach could be a reform of the relationship/accountability between the local MP & the council?

@lewis_goodall How about: halve the number of constituencies and elect 2 MPs per. One goes to Westminster full time, the other stays local and becomes head of all public services and constituency business full time. Also gives us a chance to decide who gets the job in all those safe seats.

Spot on. We’ve come to fetishise “local representatives” far too much, a symptom of our politics becoming smaller and more parochial. What we need is quality national politicians. If they have to be “parachuted” in, and they spend more time in SW1 than the constituency, so be it.

@lewis_goodall I think there’s a balance to be had - I think a key problem is the misunderstanding of the point of MPs. They’re representatives & not delegates, a distinction which I’d guess that much/most of the electorate don’t understand.

@CoLor_fps @CDNZA111 @ThomasSowell I also think it’s partly the failure of the mediators of debates - I often see these interruptions become endemic & wonder why the person overseeing it doesn’t step in at any point. Again, I can only assume it’s for content generation, rather than any kind of intellectual rigour.

@CoLor_fps @CDNZA111 @ThomasSowell I should add that I don’t think the polarisation of political opinion has helped this either. Perhaps social media has contributed to this, given that more extreme content/opinion tends to generate more views, so it makes sense that polarisation is the end result of this media.
