“We all have a responsibility here. We cannot cut childcare so that the CFO can keep their parking and come in [twice] a month. We cannot cut healthcare for residents so that the CFO can sit on a hundred vacancies. We cannot cut food access programs because of a mythical cash flow problem that no one can provide any analysis for.”

Yesterday, we hosted our 10th Annual Learning Event. Thanks to @AspenInstitute’s Anne Mosle for speaking to the importance of our 2-generation approach and sustained investments in children, families, and the educators who support them every day to close the opportunity gap.

Our community is a constant presence at the @CouncilofDC to make sure they stand with children, families, and educators in the FY27 budget. Fully fund the #PayEquityFund and Child Care Subsidy program to protect DC’s ECE system!

Yet our teachers are in their classrooms every day and are slated to get steep pay cuts unless the @councilofdc fully restores the #PayEquityFund.

.@ChmnMendelson raised an interesting point in a recent hearing: He says two newly renovated offices for the CFO, which cost the city $26m annually, are largely sitting empty. The CFO only requires workers to be in person 2 days a month. Mendo doubts they're even managing that.

Our Parent and Teacher Ambassadors stormed the Wilson Building today to make sure their voices were heard. They shared their personal stories and made a unified ask: fully restore funding to the #PayEquityFund and increase investment in the Child Care Subsidy.

Behind every thriving classroom is an educator like Jakira, supporting, and uplifting young learners every day. But recent proposed cuts to ECE investments put these classrooms at risk. Contact your councilmember today, and urge them to protect the Pay Equity Fund

Grateful to coalition partners like @DCEducare, who met with several @councilofdc offices yesterday to urge them to fully fund: Child Care Subsidy: $177.1M to keep care affordable for families and prevent waitlists. Pay Equity Fund: $94.2M to restore fair pay for early educators. The Mayor proposed a cruel budget. Now it is on the Council to fix it.

“I was getting paid more to make sandwiches than to educate kids.” D.C.’s investment in the Pay Equity Fund changed that for Educare DC Assistant Teacher Shremaine Stewart. Now, the future she’s building could be pulled out from under her. wapo.st/4sSLkD9

This new research from @MathematicaNow affirms what we already know at Educare DC: the #PayEquityFund is working. It is growing the teacher workforce. It is helping educators stay in the field. And it is expanding access for families.
DC Action@WeAreDCAction

Today we’re hearing from researchers, analysts, parents, and child care center leaders about how impactful the Pay Equity Fund is for children, families, educators, and the economy. According to @MathematicaNow, the PEF has generated $93M in total benefits compared to $76M in costs, w/ a positive ROI: -78% of total program benefits accrued to families -13% of total program benefits to child care facilities -9% of total program benefits to educators

.@Under3DC and @WeAreDCAction are rolling out a new report at the Wilson Building arguing the childcare pay equity fund delivers way more in benefits than it costs: Bowser plans to eliminate it. It also argues most benefits flow to parents (despite Bowser's assertions otherwise)
