NEWS: @MayorBowser says she isn't signing the 2027 budget that was approved earlier this month by the D.C. Council. It still takes effect, but she protests some of the spending decisions and says the council is kicking the can down the road on "tough budget problems."

Great question. The real problem is that the MPD staffing is short ~850 sworn members from its authorized strength of 4000. This is why we have been unable to address crime properly. Instead of trying to fix policing, the Council has funneled tens of millions into the shady, grift laden world of “violence interruption.”

A 16-year old participating in the program, but not the shooter, was arrested with two handguns and an extended magazine. In what demonstrable way do these tax-payer funded organizations reduce/prevent violence? Show me the metrics.

Metro has been cracking down on fare evasion in the transit system, but thousands of the tickets it has handed out in D.C. are regularly being tossed out of court. That's making some wonder if D.C.'s law is essentially toothless.

Update: The director of the D.C. Council's budget office emailed @MayorBowser's chief of staff over the weekend to point out the mayor erred in her letter to lawmakers critiquing their budget changes. Bowser said the council fully decoupled from Trump's tax cuts, but it didn't.

Interesting: In a letter to the D.C. Council ahead of next week’s final budget vote, @MayorBowser warns that some of the decisions the council is making to restore funding for social services could leave @Janeese4DC with a $800 million budget gap to address in her first year.

Every person in DC who is registered to vote but couldn't bother to vote although the damn ballot arrived at your front door should be ashamed of yourself. You could have chosen anyone. Instead you dishonored thousands of people who suffered or died to ensure your right to vote.
