Everyone knows Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb. 💡 Everyone is wrong. His name was Joseph Swan. Born in Pallion, Sunderland. Son of a failed entrepreneur. No university. No laboratory. No backing. Just a chemist's apprentice in his home town who couldn't stop thinking about light. He worked on it for twenty years. Along the way he invented bromide photographic paper. Artificial fibre, the process that led to rayon. Over seventy patents. And still nobody had made a lightbulb that worked. Then on the 18th of December 1878, in a lecture hall in Newcastle, he switched it on. It burned bright. Then it broke. But the idea was proven. ⚡ Six weeks later, 3rd February 1879, he demonstrated it again. This time it worked. Seven hundred people watched the room light up. Eight months before Thomas Edison. Edison heard about it. Filed a patent. Then sued Swan in America. The US Patent Office found against Edison. ✅ Edison sued Swan in Britain. The British courts found against Edison again. ✅✅ As part of the settlement, Edison was forced into a partnership with Swan. The company was called Ediswan. Swan's patents. Swan's filament design. Edison's name first. Eventually Edison bought him out. Swan was knighted in 1904. The Savoy Theatre, the first building in the world lit entirely by electricity, used his bulbs. Edison got the credit. Swan got a knighthood nobody remembers. And history forgot Sunderland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Did they teach you his name? Having worked in the public sector, I can confirm it operates as a mafia. A giant holding pen for mediocre people with mediocre degrees to wear suits and create work for each other so they can steal an ever larger chunk of taxpayers' hard-earned money. Of course they spent £180 million deciding not to build a road tunnel. When I worked in public sector management consultancy, we were tasked with finding efficiencies in the IT department of a large government agency. One man we spoke to had two laptops on his desk. He said one was for forex trading and the other one was to monitor his chicken farm in Ghana. There was no shame as he told us this, no realisation that he was actually being employed to do a job that didn't involve forex trading or managing a chicken farm in Ghana. We were struck by the number of people sitting around doing nothing, even for a public sector organisation. Then we discovered that the man running the IT department also owned an IT recruitment consultancy. Every man he hired into this IT department from his recruitment consultancy put money in his own pocket. So there was a huge incentive for him to just hire as many men as possible to get as rich as possible. Never mind being prosecuted over this - I don't think he actually lost his job. And there's an incentive in the rest of the public sector to hire as many people as possible because the more people you manage, the more important you are, the bigger budget you get, and the greater your salary. (On the plus side, as a management consultant, finding efficiencies in the public sector is a piece of piss.) When you hear about public sector investment, this is money taken from the real economy and given to people to produce very little. This isn't "investment" any more than a bank "invests" in bank robbers. It's not done to make a profit. It holds the real economy back, not just in terms of the tax burden, but also in the huge numbers of workers tied up in this false, public sector Potemkin economy. Those workers should be in the real economy producing something of value. Britain could be a paradise. We could all be rich. There's no need for mass immigration. The workers we need are already here doing nothing, on benefits or in the public sector. We just need to fire everyone in the public sector and scrap all benefits.

They are saying the quiet parts out loud now. They want you to hate women for not having enough babies. For daring to want to lead equal lives. They want you to hate someone who holds a different religion to you. For daring to practice it and pray. They want you to hate someone for disagreeing with them. For not sharing their values and standing up to them. They want you to hate. Its the currency of their world. Don't let it be the currency of yours.
Danny Kruger@danny__kruger

Nick Timothy and Nigel Farage are right, and Sadiq Khan and Keir Starmer are wrong. Small groups of people, of whatever religion, praying in public places is fine. And as a Christian country we should allow a special privilege for churches to lead services in our national spaces, like the Palm Sunday celebration that happens in Trafalgar Square. What we don't want is mass ritual observances intended to claim the civic realm for another religion, or assert the domination of another culture over our own Christian traditions. What happens in our national spaces is not neutral. People use Trafalgar Square, for celebrations and demonstrations, to make a point about the kind of country they want us to be. The Palm Sunday pageant reminds us of who we are - not as individuals (many or most of us don't identify as Christians at all) but as a national community, with the roots of our institutions in the ground of the Bible and our most solemn communal moments, from coronations to funerals, mediated through the liturgies of the Church. A mass Adhan held there, or in any town square, is making a different point: that Britain is not a Christian country, and that - inshallah - one day it shall be Muslim. This is unacceptable to the British public and indeed incompatible with our constitution. As ever with these debates, the issue is partly one of kind and partly one of degree. There is an issue with Islam itself as a religion which in most interpretations does not admit of pluralism or freedom of conscience, and therefore is inherently aggrandising, including over territory. But with a bit of confidence and a bit of toleration we could handle that - if it were not for the issue of degree. It is the scale of Islam in Britain, and the ambition of its leaders for greater scale, that makes the problem. The numbers of people who assembled for the adhan in Trafalgar Square, clearly and openly claiming the territory for a faith with no connection (indeed, with strong doctrinal disagreement) with the model of Western liberal democracy that Britain has developed and exported to the world - that is the problem. The numbers, whether everyone there understood it this way or not (and I suspect many did), convey an explicit threat to the foundations of our country. Being relaxed about other people's religion is a good thing, a very British thing. I don't mind modern druids dancing around Stonehenge in my constituency (arguably, though the historicity is tenuous, they have a claim to the place). I don't mind small groups of Hindus or Buddhists or Muslims demonstrating the reality of Britain's religious toleration by worshiping in Trafalgar Square. But let's not kid ourselves about this adhan, or pretend that we're just seeing another harmless expression of Britain's religious diversity. We are seeing an abuse of liberalism, led by people who are not themselves liberal; or - let us imagine they are acting in good faith - who are themselves deceived about what they are doing. It should not happen again. And it would be good to hear the Church of England say so.

As I predicted in January, feeble Starmer is about to make THE WORST U-Turn of all time: allowing the low-skilled BORISWAVE to stay here PERMANENTLY & claim BILLIONS in benefits & housing Under pressure from his Loony Left MPs, the Muslim Vote & the Green Party, Starmer's now signalling he'll DROP the plan to extend Indefinite Leave to Remain eligibility from 5 yrs to 10 yrs This means that, from this year, the Boriswave will be allowed to stay permanently, costing the UK taxpayer billions - in fact, eventually TENS of BILLIONS. BORISWAVE: 4.8 MILLION people arrived in the UK btw 2021-2024. 7% of the UK pop. changed in just 3 years. This was the largest demographic shift in 1000 years The first ripple of the Boriswave already became eligible for permanent settlement & benefits two months ago (January). This is disastrous Starmer knows this and wished to extend Indefinite Leave to Remain eligibility from 5 to 10 years. However, so weak is he - and so beholden to sectarian votes - that he is being held hostage by the "Red-Green", Islamo-Leftist alliance. In addition, Starmer's open border comrades (i.e. immigration lawyers) are promising to block this extension in the courts. Let's be clear: the majority of the Boriswave are low-skilled, low-earning migrants from the third world / developing nations. Allowing them to stay in the UK will be an economic, social and cultural catastrophe. Up to 1.6 MILLION migrants could become eligible to stay in the UK permanently, with some estimates saying it is closer to 2.5 MILLION We know from the OBR etc. that this type of low-skilled migrant will end up costing the tax payer approx. £465,000 EACH if they live to 80 years. In the shorter term, at least 800,000 will immediately become eligible for benefits. The government - and any new government - must commit to blocking the Boriswave from settling in the UK If Starmer takes the knee to his radicals and grants the Boriswave ILR, a new government should ABOLISH Indefinite Leave to Remain as one of its first acts. Benefits should only go to British citizens. And eligibility for citizenship should be extended to 15 years. Link to my full monologue in the tweet below. Clip:👇 1/2

For a number of years, more than 20 years ago, I worked for a Pakistani owned business and lived in a Muslim dominated area of Manchester. I understand why Nick feels this way, and those railing against it in the name of diversity are ignoring that Islam is aggressively intolerant of other religions. I have many years of personal experience with both immigrant and British born Pakistanis. There was no real difference. Islam is the one true faith and all others are "kafir". It's a far more exclusive religion than others, there is no interest in diversity of faith. You are Muslim, or you are "kafir". This was highlighted to me on the day of 9/11. It was early in the morning, around 9am, and cheers started echoing down the corridors. Word started to spread and they were all grinning and clapping each other on the backs. These were men and women born and raised here for the most part. The owner wheeled in a big CRT TV and 30-40 of them gathered around BBC news laughing and cheering like Pakistan were in the cricket world cup final. It is not hard to see why large public prayers by followers of a religion perceived as hostile to your very existence can feel less like worship and more like an assertion of dominance. I'm sure there are many good, tolerant Muslim people in this country who mix Western ideals with the muslim faith. People that consider themselves British among all else. But I learned that day that there are less than you think.
Nick Timothy MP@NJ_Timothy

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

30,000 Muslims in Birmingham participating in sex-segregated Islamic prayers in public today. Just as wrong as it was in Trafalgar Square. There are around 190–220 mosques in Birmingham which they can pray in. Again, this is asserting their dominance.

Dear Sadiq Khan, I think some of the prejudice to do with 'singling out Muslims' is to to with their stated intention to kill 'infidels', expecially the bit about beheading them You see, the other religions don't promise that
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

British values mean defending everyone’s right to practise their faith freely. In London, I’m proud Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and others can celebrate in Trafalgar Square. Singling out Muslims isn’t ‘British values’ - it’s prejudice. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
