@psydoc1970 @barnes_law @VDHanson Given VDH's abysmal prognostication, I think you are right about all of VDH's wisdom likely residing in a single toe. Like a very wise man said "If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"

@barnes_law JD shows a stunning lack of technical knowledge. There aren't nuclear suicide vests. They would be superheavy, would not look like vests, and wouldn't be strapped to a person. It's ain't C-4 and ball bearings. This isn't the Mandalorian.

@BenjaminiteMD @BobMurphyEcon @scotthortonshow @martyrmade You all are insane. Russia has crushed the Ukrainian army. If you believe the 30-KIA for Ukraine then you probably believe that Ukraine is something other than a project of the CIA-MI6-Mossad. They aren't. The Azov do fight hard, though. It's in their blood :)

@YannisAndris I guess it's perspective. You want Putin to prosecute the war like he's Trump or Netanyahu but Putin wants good relations with China and China wouldn't stand for that. And reality check: only Jesus and Lazarus were a better resurrection story than Putin and Russia. Let him cook.

Putin is: - Pathologically risk-averse (yes, despite Crimea and SMO) - Naively Europhile - Obsessed with a grand deal with the US that is structurally impossible without a decisive Russian victory - A believer of Russia-Ukraine unconditional brotherhood Hence, Russia can't win.
Anna@provemewrong411

Unfortunately, due to Putin’s inability to finish what he started driven by his constant fear of escalation, NATO will soon be striking Moscow directly… All the red lines have been crossed, yet Kiev and zelensky remain intact. Why?

@nickgillespie Too much money is a problem. Only a crisis will cause California to stop spending itself to death. And those billionaires are terrible humans. Fuck them, we should support the tax if only to get them out. They are the fake tits of the body politic.

Why are billionaires fleeing California? Last year, the founders of Google (Sergey Brin and Larry Page), Steven Spielberg, Peter Thiel, Travis Kalanick, Mark Zuckerberg, and Dan Hankey moved their principal residences elsewhere. The short answer: Because the Golden State is taxing and regulating the hell out of them. Later this year, Californians may vote on a one-time billionaire's tax that will grab 5 percent of the wealth of anyone in that rarified crowd. In its current form, the proposed initiative will retroactively cover people living in the state in 2026. Gov. Gavin Newsom is against the plan, fwiw. Here's a snippet of a live @reason Roundtable held at Reason Weekend in Palos Verde a week-plus ago.

The fact that Russia, with all its might, is still seeking a diplomatic solution to this Donbass debacle is beyond embarrassing. Like, what does Russia have to lose? Are they afraid of being cut off from the Western world, or are they afraid of another 30,000 sanctions? Or perhaps they fear that their people and athletes will continue to be discriminated against and banned from absolutely everything? Putin might have a strategy, but entering the fifth year of conflict against ukraine while being a military and nuclear superpower…is frankly embarrassing…. I’m saying all of this as Putins biggest supporter! I loved him way before it was cool to do so…

@peterdaou The easy, consistent position is that bombing civilians is wrong, a war crime, and unacceptable, full stop. Harris and Biden were key Ukraine enablers and it's the same war. Same MI6-Mossad-CIA horror show.

OK, now I'll go and see "Project Hail Mary."
Bishop Robert Barron@BishopBarron

I just saw the much talked about film “Project Hail Mary.” It's very entertaining and uplifting and features a fine performance from Ryan Gosling. But what most intrigued me were the powerful Christian themes at play in it. The title, of course, refers to the Hail Mary pass in football, since the adventure undertaken is a fairly desperate attempt to save the planet. But it also becomes eminently clear that the reference is not just to football but to the Blessed Mother herself, for the Gosling character is undoubtedly a Christ-figure. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but it involves a willingness to sacrifice one's life utterly in order to deliver the entire human race from disaster. It is, of course, no accident that Gosling's character is called Ryland Grace, for throughout the movie, his presence and actions constitute undeserved favor to others. A particularly intriguing character in the film is a sober German scientist who relentlessly presses Grace to make the supreme sacrifice, even when he is unwilling. She represented for me the great moral demand that presses upon us throughout our lives, continually summoning us to self-gift. A last observation: Jesus had a second in command whom he called Peter (the Rock); Ryland Grace has a very unusual sidekick whom he calls “Rocky.” I'll leave it at that. I know lots of people say that Christianity is in irreversible decline and that we are inhabiting, at least in the West, a post-Christian society. I'm not so sure. Like it or not, we remain a Christ-haunted culture—and a film like “Project Hail Mary” makes this clear.

@Quinctilus @Ayoelesho @HussainShafiei The Streisand effect is so great. Every bounty raises his profile. I just wish more would just listen to him and tell us what he is wrong about. Because when you listen, you realize that we aren’t just losing the war, we can’t win. More importantly, we shouldn’t.

He is 59 years old. Born in Richmond, Virginia, but chose Iran. That alone tells you everything about the kind of man he is. He has the rare ability to dissect Western narratives in real time, be it live on CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Sky News, and dismantle them calmly, in perfect English, often better than the hosts themselves. Recently, he appeared on live TV and left a host completely speechless after naming the “Epstein class” as the elite pulling strings over governments and media. Just days later, a verified account on X posted a $1 million bounty on his head, demanding he be captured alive. His response? He kept talking. Kept showing up. Didn’t miss a single interview. His PhD thesis was a direct intellectual challenge to Edward Said’s work on Orientalism. Written at the University of Birmingham. Pure scholarship. He volunteered to fight in the Iran-Iraq war as a young man. Survived two chemical weapons attacks. Then went back to university and became a professor. He is one of the founders of the Institute for North American and European Studies at the University of Tehran. Built academic bridges while the West was burning them. He has appeared on nearly every major global news network as a voice that inserts truth into the entire conversation. He has done so much for those of us tired of one-sided Western narratives dominating the airwaves. In the art of truth-telling and intellectual courage, Professor Marandi is a role model to our generation. 💯 Video credit: Unmute Humanity @s_m_marandi

@DJZ3 @robertwrighter @academic_la It’s not a gunboat. There is no need to be at range for cannons. A carrier is most useful against an enemy whose main threat is missiles. The ship moves, unlike planes parked on a fixed airstrip that will eventually be hit.

"Dems would've been better" is the liberal version of "does Israel have a right to exist". Both are questions are intended to obscure the moral/political responsibility of those in power. Did Democrats have an obligation to put forward an anti-genocide candidate when it became clear failing to do so would cost them votes? Did Democrats have an obligation to hold a primary given polls showing Biden's unpopularity two years prior to the election? Yes. The but-for cause of Dems losing is not a Lebanese-American raising valid concerns about the nature of the imperial duopoly. Dems are the ones who chose Trump over Palestine. But I guess it's easier to blame Peter Daou.
