It was at this moment I thought we had the next best midfielder in the Premier League. The anticipation to watch him play again on the back of this game was like nowt we had experienced for a little while. Shame he never filled the boots the way we thought he would #NUFC

@Thunderlightyy @gw850 Why bring Howe into it? My point is strictly about winning after a drought. Is it you with the 'fetishness' if you can't even see a result without making it about one man? In a period of negativity, I just don’t understand people rejecting an branch of positivity

@gw850 For them one win after many losses already prove the point that Eddie deserve chances. That's how fetishness they have on Howe that a different opinion and view deemed as negative in their simple minded clapper mind.

In fairness, if you think one win, where we were extremely fortunate, papers over months of pathetic performances and suddenly makes everything rosy again, then more fool you.
David Lackenby@DLackas4

There’s a specific brand of misery on #NUFC twitter where even winning isn’t enough. We have spent weeks complaining about not winning and now we’ve won, we’re complaining about how we won. Is anyone actually having fun? We stopped the rot, end of, enjoy it! Positivity Vacuums

@gw850 Never once said it papers over the cracks. Just said we won & it’s okay to be happy. Was the performance great, nope, but we got the win that was much needed. In a period of negativity for the club I don’t understand people not grasping an olive branch of positivity when there.

@jofus02 Think you're misinterpreting me Joe. I'm not defending the season or the system, I'm just saying we hadn't won in 4 & now we have. That is 'stopping the rot' by definition in sport. It’s okay to just be happy about the result without having to solve the whole season's problems

@DLackas4 We’ve not ‘stopped the rot’. People are rightfully pissed off because it’s been an absolutely vile season, with next to no change at all in things like the system.

@Stevenmorris66 Fair points on the squad for next season, but I think it’s worth noting he did change things up to get the win this weekend. I’m deffo not saying we’ve turned a corner, just that it’s nice to have a win. I'm just choosing to enjoy the result for now & look forward to the summer

@DLackas4 Yes celebrate the win fair enough but some fans think we are back some people have rose tinted glasses on and if Eddie doesn't change and adapt to different teams next season it will be the same shit and I will go nuts if pope, burn, wilock and Murphy are still here next season

@HelloBenWhite I think you are overcomplicating it just for the sake of an argument there. If you think a post asking for positivity is 'neggy,' you’ve almost proven the point of me saying people will find problems with anything pushing positivity. Literally couldn’t be more what I’m saying

@DLackas4 There’s a certain sense of irony here.. literally the most neggy post I’ve read today.

@Stevenmorris66 I agree it doesn’t solve the long-term issues, but what's the alternative reaction to a win? Just more misery? Seems to be what the crack is. Going into the game what did people want? It’s okay to take the 3 points & be happy about it for 24hrs without thinking Europe is back on.

@DLackas4 It's the fact we have lost 9 games in 12 and people are acting like this win makes up for it all it definitely does not and it papers over the cracks at Newcastle which we have had since the cup win

@MalcAise I don’t know how you’re supposed to be mate, I think I probs just looked at it from a different point of view. I just felt like that at the first opportunity in a while for us to embrace positivity there’s a lot still wanting to pick out the negatives rather than enjoy the win

@DLackas4 I watched MOTD for the first time in months, I love my team and I love a win and 3pts, that final whistle was fantastic yesterday, but am I supposed to be positive in the cold light of day? Is realism not allowed, I believe Howe is done, with a heavy heart.

@MalcAise Like I’ve responded to the others, at no point in this post am I talking bout the season as a whole. After waiting so long for a win, it seems that when that finally comes, rather than basking in that positivity you have people still rather picking the problems in that game

@DLackas4 That’s absolute bollocks mate, it’s called reality, and over the last 12 months we’ve regressed, heartless, pedestrian, no dynamism which was key in Howe’s first 2 yrs. Everyone is delighted with the win, but there’s a much bigger picture.

@Jus7Jay That’s why I wasn’t commenting on the season as a whole mate, there’s no one can say this season has been a success. All I was saying was that after weeks of justified negativity, a win which gives us a positivity for a day, surely rather than finding the bad in it, enjoy it

Stopped the rot? One plucky win where they had us bent over for a good chunk of the second half. We’ve 3 games left and it’s only now we’re actually more or less mathematically safe from going down. Nearly 5 years into this project we should be battling in the top 6 not bottom 6. This season has been nowhere near good enough or enjoyable.

@NickDryden1 I do agree aswell there’s more than meets the eye but my opinion was that as a Newcastle fan I wouldn’t have cared if we had scraped a 1-0 victory being dominated and the goal had deflected in off Osula’s cory as long as we got a vital 3 points after a terrible run

@DLackas4 I think we do enjoy it but also realise it probably masks an awful lot that is currently wrong. The stats don't lie.

@grittyboy11 I get your point too mate. Everyone is drained in their own way, whether you are Howe in or Howe out for me in this situation doesn’t matter. Newcastle won & that’s what I’m buzzing about, been too long without that feeling. Hopefully we have an upturn now. We have to enjoy a win

@DLackas4 Absolutely take your point completely. I think I’m just drained of where we’re at now and why we’re there. I just worry that it won’t get better and miraculously improve if we rinse and repeat next season as Howe is saying and doing some very questionable things right now 🤷‍♂️

@NickDryden1 3 points is the most convincing thing mate. After a run we have had of not winning, the performance almost was second fiddle to the result, we needed to get the business done and we did. I’m not saying we are great again, all I’m saying is enjoy a win, as a football fan, enjoy it

@grittyboy11 I’m not saying any corners have been turned mate. I’m just saying after weeks & weeks of us praying that the next game was gonna be the one for us to stop the bad run, when that actually happens surely rather than nitpicking the problems just enjoy the result & hope for the best

@DLackas4 We’ve far from turned a corner mate. Don’t be under any illusions that things will improve from here. Both years we’ve had Europe he’s proved he can’t cope with balancing it with league duties. Finished outside ANY euro places when we’ve played Champs league. This will not change

I want you to name a Newcastle player you think people under 30 wouldn't know. First team or even reserves. I'll start it off with Fumaca.

On this day in 2004: Newcastle United beat Everton 4-2 at SJP in the premier league, Shearer got a brace, Dyer and Bellamy the scorers.

Listened to @BobbyVincentFL on @ADMusgrove podcast the other day and he got it bang on. Chelsea struggled against teams playing with a low block and played out exactly that way. Hard working disciplined defensive performance by the lads. Huge three points #NUFC
