@Aella_Girl @simon_saying @baranskocracy You’re not entirely wrong that there is some hypocrisy here but your example isn’t really compelling when you’re comparing spending ~thousands to go to another country and giving people $150 versus giving the equivalent* of 76 cents to someone in your immediate vicinity

@simon_saying @baranskocracy I said same amount of impact. A pizza delivery guy makes ~40k/year, so Mr. Beast just handed him ~3 months of salary. You could go to some of the poorest countries in the world and have the same impact on people's lives for like $150. And yet you do not.

@dyslexicjaguar @realjaycote Don’t Jace and four others indiscriminately burn ships while one brother is safe and the other is already miles away being carried east? In what way would any of that save his brother? In what way would flying too low and getting shot be an agentic sacrifice for his brother?

@drathzamn63944 @maidenvaults Yes my pitbull is chained up and muzzled and fenced off and carefully monitored 24/7, that shows how in control I am! Now let me unchain unmuzzle it and send it after your toddler, I’m so in control and can totally make it stop whenever I want

@dyslexicjaguar @realjaycote Different =/= worse or less character agency. Fine to find it less compelling but the suggestions that character agency is lost or book Jace sacrificed himself for siblings not at the battle are silly and suggest an opinion formed more by miscomprehension than personal taste

@DLydbyrd @realjaycote You are arguing a separate point that has nothing to do with the fact. Aemond accidentally chomping on his brother for lunch is very, very different than killing him with hate in his heart. Jace sacrificing himself for his siblings is very different than this, etc.

@BeeLoveyz @bloodonacross Stop man. It took Bronn several shots to line up a hit on drogon. They didn't miss and hit shots instantly on a small quick flying dragon. It was shit.

@dyslexicjaguar @realjaycote Yeah Aemond just happened to be chasing Luke on a giant death machine, Jace just happened to be fighting ships he wasn’t supposed to be. It’s not like the entire show has been about the choices people made that lead them to be in these uncontrollable “accident” prone situations

@DLydbyrd @realjaycote The show is committed to make sure bad things never happen because of active decisions. Aemond didn’t mean to kill his brother out of boiling hate, he couldn’t control Vhagar. Jace didn’t die out of a reckless commitment to his kin, it’s because of an accident, etc.

@milwwstars @_NTSurge_ The only time it happened was when Silverwing defied Alysanne and refused to fly beyond the Wall, but that was clearly an exception. Even GRRM and the in-universe historical accounts make a big deal out of it because it’s such a rare event it only happened once.

we don’t talk enough about the damage hotd writers inflicted on how people view the bond between dragons and riders. once a dragon is claimed, it won’t act against its bonded rider’s wishes. i completely understand why grrm distanced himself from this adaptation.

@dyslexicjaguar @realjaycote Viserys’s last words were annoying, but most accidents are directly downstream of character agency. Jace/Rhaena’s is caused by reckless insecurity, which was caused by Rhaenyra refusing to truly respect either, which was caused by Viserys… etc etc It’s very agentic & thematic!

@dyslexicjaguar @realjaycote Agency does not mean accomplishing all you set out to do. The themes are all about the inherent chaos of power/illusion of control, and half the characters are naive, arrogant, traumatized teens on nukes. Neat plans would be unrealistic

@EvilTomHanks @DynastyZoltanFF Lohar gets named character buff but also misses the flesh and then every shot after that misses until the threat of another dragon distracts them enough to cause a hit This also the fleet that has been fending off dragons for 20 years wdym no practice

@DynastyZoltanFF It annoys me how accurate the people firing those things are. A moving target, in the sky, at high speed and they always seem to get them in a couple shots. With no practice.

@JCleverOne @SundanceKidSr @DynastyZoltanFF nerfed relative to what? the book, where ships/scorpions accomplished the same thing? the previous shows where ships/scorpions accomplished the same thing - and with much bigger dragons? at least the show made it seem like they’d have been fine if sheepstealer didnt distract them

@JS330H @SundanceKidSr @JCleverOne @DynastyZoltanFF not beyond the realm of possibility when Cole’s army has never fought dragons while the Triarchy held off Caraxes for 20 years. it’s also a lot easier when you have a heavy object in the form of a ship readily available to sink the target with

@SundanceKidSr @JCleverOne @DynastyZoltanFF How Cole acts towards the dragons vs how easy it is for some random people on a ship to hit one twice with a fatal shot (if no 2nd dragon avsilable to save them) is pretty interesting

@S4lm0n3ll4_ @AltShiftX would you have preferred twenty more minutes of nameless extras getting shot with arrows and falling into the sea? it’s a story none of it matters if you don’t follow the characters people know who are doing things of consequence

@mania_moo @carsonsollunae not really trying to argue this more broadly but having one or two losing matchups is very different when those matchups total to ~50% of the playerbase vs when it’s maybe ~5-10%

@carsonsollunae 1. Puff loses to fox and maybe Marth, most ppl agree Steve loses to min min and maybe sonic 2. Wall of pains are not hard, coming from a melee puff main myself 3. The percentage argument doesn’t make sense since there was the threat of rest, which kills at or near zero anyways

That LID is not a rounding error. Around 1,500 commercial properties carry it, paying roughly $1,000 a year for 20 years. The owners who pocket the uplift help fund the uplift. That's about as close to a user fee as real estate gets. /4

"just pay the taxes bro," posted over four photos of the beautiful (new) Seattle waterfront. An interesting pick; of all the things to caption that way, the waterfront might be the weakest to carry that label. A third of it never came from taxes at all, here is how it worked. /1

@MemeCopium @fadhb4fabulous @hankgreen @TheBrianMcManus Because he trusted his audience to understand that the point is NOT “anyone with 0 editing skills who cant use their own voice can profit in a few days” and cause it was a quick side project. Also most Americans have ~8k+ liquid in bank accounts so you’re even wrong there too

@MemeCopium @hankgreen @TheBrianMcManus Yes, I did completely misrepresent what happened, but an important detail is this other goalpost that is not relevant to what I said. Also I will fully gauge “success” on the profit margin of one video within a few days even though most of the costs are unique to the experiment

Kind of, but an important detail is that everyone remembers the secret video as a roaring success, because the video about it did blow up, and it linked directly to that video. The story is repeated by him and his community as it was always a million view hit. What he actually did was spend $600 to get 10k views. He failed to create a successful channel to "prove its not luck", I said to another reply but hes essentially said "I entered Taladaga to prove its not luck" & then shows himself buying a car. Personally I believe hard work, talent and intelligence are very important for building anything in life, but luck is always one of the most important factors.
