For me if we see him in games at Ibrox in particular against low blocks he can be an asset as he has the ability. Off the ball though he's poor and we can't play him in tough away games.

His hand/arm would be nowhere near his head if Trusty doesn’t push his arm up when he jumps. To those saying it’s an elbow, Nicholsons elbow is occupying the space before Trusty is

I’ve learned again that exhausting truth about Scottish football in recent weeks: that hotly-contested refereeing decisions are scarcely ever approached by fans with an open mind, but forever shaped by which team you support.
Hence the very same penalty is either “a stonewaller” or “never a penalty in a million years” when, in actual fact, with all the competing evidence and TV angles, it is often very hard to call.
It becomes draining, trying to argue with “emphatic” on both sides. A futile pursuit.
Forgive my simpering.🤣 I suppose I get paid for all this.

@ScottishFA Why not just ensure your officials do their job without fear or favour. You know, applying the rules to all equally rather than one team escaping about 5 red cards over the last 10 games of the season. Then your officials wouldn’t require police protection.

Why was it no pen Henry? Ref was advised to go to the monitor and made the call. It was still a subjective call. John Beaton with his own eyes deemed it as handball. Was he wrong? Did the ball not hit the hand of Sam Nicholson in an unnatural position…

Celtic’s penalty was certainly a debatable decision. Impossible to be definitive either way, hence current widespread inquest, so they really should have stayed with original on-field. No pen. Understandable anger amongst Motherwell and Hearts coaches, players and supporters. Hearts now travel to Celtic Park for a title decider. The Foundation of Hearts, which owns 75% of the club, has called “on those responsible for the officiating of Saturday’s match to ensure that the highest standards of decision-making are applied, so that the game is decided by the players on the pitch and the team is given the fair opportunity it has earned”. Strong words. North and South of the Border the quality of officiating - and consistency – has been questioned this season. The problem is not the technology but those using it. There are some very competent officials about. But more are needed. Whether the Fir Park hand-ball was the worst decision ever is a moot point. Here are a few that spring immediately to mind, clear-cut mistakes, bound to trigger some frustrated flashbacks, in no particular order…. Diogo Dalot on Jeremy Doku, somehow only a yellow. Michael Keane on Doku, somehow only a yellow. Jordan Pickford taking out Virgil van Dijk. Harry Kane foot up on Andy Robertson. Tomas Soucek stopping a shot from Conor Gallagher with his hand. Rodri hand-ball against Everton. On it goes. Elliot Anderson on Ollie Watkins, cleared on review, mad. Kelechi Iheanacho denied a goal for Celtic against Braga when VAR ruled he’d handled when the ball came off his cheek. Gabriel not being dismissed for lowering his forehead into Erling Haaland. Luis Diaz punished for a non-existent offside when scoring for Liverpool against Tottenham. Lee Mason left his VAR job “by mutual consent” and PGMO apologised after he failed to draw the lines and spot Christian Norgaard offside in the build-up to Ivan Toney scoring for Brentford, costing Arsenal two points. And many others. The problem isn’t the technology; it’s the people using it, with the additional issue in Scotland of whether there is sufficient investment in the technology infrastructure. VAR is the safety net - but currently with too many holes.

Those who questioned the integrity of Sam Nicholson owe the boy an apology.
The @MotherwellFC player swore on his kids life that the ball didn’t strike his hand.
This new video clip is the clearest evidence of that.

If anything, Trusty jumps into Nicholson forcing his hand up from below but that doesn’t make his body unnaturally bigger.

Seen too many freeze frames of Nicholson handballing. He does handball it. No question.
Here’s a freeze frame as Nicholson is just about to jump as high as he can for the ball. Trusty is yards away.
Nicholson only has eyes on the ball the whole time. He uses his arms as leverage like anyone does.
The only reason he handballs is it because Trusty runs from behind, jumps through Nicholson and knocks his arm into the ball.

I understand the emotion around a huge penalty decision in a massive game. Football does that to people.
But at some point emotion has to give way to evidence. When freeze frames, angles and clear contact are sitting right in front of us, denying it because it doesn’t suit your team or narrative just kills any honest debate.
What’s even worse is when professionals and pundits, who know the game inside out, deliberately drive a narrative to suit an agenda rather than analyse what’s actually in front of them. That only fuels tribalism and misinformation.
You can debate consistency. You can debate interpretation. But you can’t just ignore unrefutable evidence because it’s inconvenient. Football discussion is far better when honesty matters more than point scoring.

B) the only reason his arm ends up there is it gets trapped by the forward’s neck as he challenges. There is zero intent.
