Mourning Charlie Kirk,
Dear Republican County Committee Members,
It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we write to you today. On September 10, 2025, our country lost Charlie Kirk, a fierce voice for conservative principles, a champion of free speech, and a man who dedicated his life to rallying our youth behind our shared love for our country. He was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback Tour,” and the news of his death has struck many of us to the core.
In this moment, we must remember Charlie not just for his life, but for what he stood for. While he could stir debate in support of his faith and freedoms, he always insisted on having courage in defense of what we believe. As Charlie himself said:
“If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas — not run away from them or try and silence them.”
He reminded us too that:
“We must also be real. We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty … But I think it’s worth it.”
In the recent past, there have been multiple assassinations and attempts: against our President, Democratic and Republican politicians around the country, a Supreme Court Justice, and Israeli embassy staff, among too many others.
Today, we grieve not only as Republicans, but as people who believe that political violence has no place in America. Charlie’s life must not be overshadowed by hatred, and his death must be a catalyst for rejecting the rhetoric of division, fear, and vengeance. We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms — this is not how our society solves disputes. Political disagreement, so long as expressed freely and civilly, is foundational to our republic. Violence is not.
I ask you all to join us in praying for the Kirk family — for Erika, their children, and the many loved ones who mourn him now. Pray also for our country, that from this painful moment we might rise with resolve to protect our liberties, our speech, and our fellow Americans — even those with whom we disagree.
Let us also commit to lead by example here in our county: in our public rhetoric, behavior, and the way we treat each other. Let courage, respect, and truth be the beacons that guide us forward in these dark hours. We cannot, we will not, surrender our freedom to fear, our hope to hatred, or our future to violence.
May we honor Charlie’s memory by holding to that promise.
