When the lights go out, a whole world of heroes clicks into gear. 💡💪
While we’re searching for flashlights and candles, thousands of lineworkers, office staff, and emergency crews are heading straight into the storm. They work around the clock, high off the ground and in some of the toughest conditions imaginable, just to make sure our coffee pots brew and our heaters kick back on.
It’s more than just fixing wires; it’s about restoring safety and comfort to our community.
Next time you see a utility truck on your street, give them a wave or a thumbs up. A little appreciation goes a long way when you’re working 16-hour shifts in the wind,snow and rain! 🛠️🌧️

Super-true. I think I was at the sweet spot: about the 75th percentile amongst a group of very talented people. And I argue that's where you want to be. You're doing well and learning from the best,
Of course, there were people who were a lot smarter than I was. But that seemed like a recipe for madness and stress.

Your 2025 airband radio holiday shopping guide. I believe in the “Good, Better, Best” philosophy. From left to right - Tidradio TD-H3, Quansheng UV-K1 Mini Kong, Uniden BC125AT, Radtel 950 PRO, Icom IC-R15. They are all winners and have excellent sensitivity in the VHF airband.
If I could only have one, the Icom R15 would be it. It can scan and search at lighting speeds, it can dual receive meaning you can listen to 2 frequencies simultaneously, internal audio recording, waterproof, made in Japan… the list goes on.
If you want the best bang for your buck and have never listened to airband before, the rest are all a toss up.

@wspd2pio College kids are heading home this week. Are there any updates on I-90? Radio silence since 8:30 last night. Will it be closed overnight again? Trying to tell me kid which way to go but the updates are almost non-existent :(

#ClosureAlert SR 18 is fully closed at I-90 and the Issaquah/Hobart Road for a mudslide. More details to come.

24 hour rainfall totals ending 10 PM PST. A large swath of the Cascades has received 4 to 6" since late last night with the Olympics receiving nearly 7". The Olympic rain shadow kept amounts lower over the central Sound. A daily rainfall record was shattered at Bellingham. #wawx

UPDATE #5: Look at the quick work by our contractor last week removing the damaged Bullfrog Road overpass. Now our bridge engineers are designing the new westbound section. We’ll keep you posted on timeline and schedule for construction.

UPDATE #4: WB I-90 has REOPENED near Cle Elum following the removal of the damaged Bullfrog Road overpass. Crews worked nonstop overnight so we could reopen I-90 earlier than expected. Our bridge engineers are designing a new WB overpass. We'll keep you posted on next steps!

UPDATE #2: An emergency contractor will demolish the damaged Bullfrog Road overpass beginning Oct. 23. One lane of EB I-90 will be closed during demo from 6 p.m. Oct. 23 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. WB I-90 expected to reopen early next week. Traffic is detoured at Exit 80.

UPDATE: I-90 remains closed WB at Exit 80 near Cle Elum after an oversized load struck the overpass. Travelers are being detoured around the closure at Exit 80 via the off- and on-ramp. Crews will be out today to assess the damage. @wspd6pio are investigating.

WB I-90 at the Bullfrog overpass is closed due to the overpass being struck by an oversized load.
Traffic will be backed up, but vehicles are able to use exit 80 to detour around the bridge and enter back onto I-90. Updates to follow as more info is obtained.

As someone who does the "blind squirrel in a forest" thing about once a decade, I find it infuriating when someone goes through the effort of saving my images and creating a new post just to ensure they get all the traffic.

Now that I have your attention please allow me to vent for a moment. There are countless accounts on here (myself included) that go through the process of traveling, shooting, editing, and posting photos on here. These accounts are putting in work to show you the shots that you’ve never seen before… and yet they have a tiny fraction of the followers of some accounts that repost stuff they found online or outright steal from lesser known photographers. Let’s try to change that. Stop following repost accounts. Start sharing and following the folks that actually make the effort to deliver photos that you’ve never seen before. I don’t ask this often but if you could share and repost this, I would appreciate it. Party on folks.

Well, the day is finally here… now officially retired after 35 years on active duty in the US Navy. Tomorrow, the first day of class for the Enology and Viticulture program here in Walla Walla. I’ll miss the cockpit, but my new office also has a very nice view…

.@HaloCollar the new style of magnetic charging clip sucks. My outdoor dog's collar has been connected for hours, but apparently I didn't balance things *just right* and it's only gotten to 26% at bedtime. Please switch back to a USB plug for a consistently solid connection.

@aspiringpeasant My first dog hated rain. She would go to any length to find shelter when the skies opened up, and I live in the hills east of Seattle.
A few weeks after she was diagnosed with leukemia and given 6-9 months to live, I found her lying on the lawn in the pouring rain....
