Assumption here, based on experience: Holland is the GM. He's responsible for roster, trades, etc. Thus, he handles the pressers. Robitaille (as President) was there last yr when GM left. @BleedOilBlue Very different narrative. It hinges on this: The Blues view him as a core player, it's a very good deal for that. The Oilers aren't looking for "core players," they're shuffling spare parts. You never pay full price for those. *don't win with 'em either.

If the Oilers signed him to that deal, you already know how it would go: “OMG… $7.75M for a guy whose career high is 26 goals and who only averages 56 games a season?!” “Management is wasting McDavid’s discount again.” But the second the Blues do it? “What a steal.” “He probably should’ve gotten $10M.” Same player. Same numbers. Completely different narrative. You know it’s true.

@AndrewKnollNHL He can't say Ceci was a mistake, b/c he still needs the guy to play for him. He can't say he was blocked from firing Hiller over $$, b/c that's a spotlight on AEG. But when he said in DEC, the season would have to "come off the rails," IMO he let us know. So, he's squirming.

This is correct, their 1-0 win over Edmonton was their only victory over a playoff qualifier from Feb. 1 onward. They had some quality wins in January (MIN 2x, EDM, PHI).

@AndrewKnollNHL I went back & watched the whole Holland presser, & there were some things that don't come across in excerpts. He spent 5 mins laying out every single flaw & "mistake" before taking questions. He should have saved all that for his answers, b/c he doesn't react well to questions!

@Oil_Drop There's very little difference a coach can make w that team. Knob<Woody, yet they stayed the same. They're designed to be carried by 3 guys management is unwilling to build around. Bruce sells responsibility, but they won't buy. He'd make a bigger impact on a tire fire like LA.

If the Oilers decide to part ways with Knoblauch, it will come quickly. Their target will be Cassidy and my guess, Edmonton is number one on Bruce's list as well.

@NHLRumourReport I can't imagine Yank wants to go to another team that won't put a single ounce of energy into developing the prospects he drafts. His reputation has taken a hit as it is from LAK mishandling/ignoring of young players.

@PuckReportNHL I don't care for BUF, but Ray forgets how skating works. When your leg is extended out like that, you don't have the ability to just shift your whole balance. You can see that's what the kid actually tried to do. He rocks back and forth to avoid having his leg sweep under McAvoy.

I always find takes like this about teams that fall one goal short of a Stanley Cup absolutely wild. One game 7 win doesn't retroactively change anything in the process lol Also McDavid said "WE were an average team" in a season in which yeah, his team was average.

@GinoHard_ I've noticed this among many things the refs have "forgotten." If it's a follow through, you have to make contact with the fucking puck! That was always the rule. Miss the puck, you're liable for your stick.
