Jared Polis to Kaitlan Collins: I have to start by correcting just one thing in the lead in. Tina Peters did not commit any crimes regarding the 2020 election. She certified. President Biden won. Nothing to do with President Trump’s election.

On Nakba Day, I’m thinking of the home my family lost in Palestine. My family was one of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian families who were violently forced out of their homes during the Nakba in 1948, when armed militias massacred Palestinians and wiped out entire towns in order to establish Israel. As we watch the same violence repeated today with Israel’s genocide, I’m grateful to live in Queens, surrounded by fig trees and grape leaves that remind me of Palestine, and vibrant communities of refugees and immigrants who are grounded in our shared struggle for justice.

I’m grateful to our NYPD and federal law enforcement partners for disrupting an alleged plot involving a senior member of Kataib Hezbollah — a federally-designated terrorist organization — who was targeting a Manhattan synagogue, as well as Jewish communities across the country. I am relieved that everyone is safe.
The unsealing of the terrorism-related charges comes amid an alarming rise in antisemitism across the country.
Let me be clear: antisemitism, violent extremism, and terrorism have no place in our city. This kind of hate is despicable. I’m thankful this alleged attack was stopped before any New Yorkers were hurt.
