Rwanda proposes 5 years in prison for unlicensed crypto trading. The official line: consumer protection. The real question: who benefits when private digital money is criminalised and only the state's e-franc survives? The @CentralBankRw is simultaneously developing the e-franc, a state-controlled digital currency, while criminalising the private ecosystem that would compete with it. The man leading the NBR's technology and CBDC strategy? Husband of @PaulKagame's daughter @AngeKagame, Ndengeyingoma serves as the NBR's Chief Technology & Innovation Officer. He represents Rwanda's central bank at international fintech forums. He is the public face of Rwanda's CBDC ambition. He is also, by direct family connection, the president's son-in-law. He is building the state digital currency that this bill clears the competition for. This is not isolated. The @rpfinkotanyi already owns Rwanda's dairy industry, road construction, real estate, banking stakes, and the only private security firm legally permitted to arm its guards, all through Crystal Ventures, a $500m party holding company the @WorldBankGroup has criticised as a quasi-monopoly. The pattern is consistent: identify a sector, establish dominance, then write the rules that lock others out. Digital money is the next frontier. The crypto bill is how they get there. 35 fraud cases, cited from a 2024 risk assessment are the entire evidential basis for a criminal licensing regime with 5 year prison sentences. Pyramid schemes are already prosecutable under existing fraud law. You do not need new criminal penalties for that. You need them to clear the field. Rwanda Inc. is open for business. Yours isn't. newtimes.co.rw/article/34891/…

@SamuelBaker_B Freedom of expression is not a greenlight to Genocide denial, trivialization and or distorting the story of Rwanda. It is neither freedom to slander the leadership of Rwanda.

Genocide commemoration should not be used to silence critics of Kagame's regime. Pointing out Kagame's crimes is not genocide denial or hate speech, and conflating the two actually trivialises the genocide. Kagame's regime has committed crimes in Rwanda and the #DRCongo. Discussing them is not revisionism. Criticising harsh restrictions on freedom of speech and media is not hate speech. Hate speech exists and should be condemned - but fairly, not selectively. Kagame's regime funds a system that conducts daily coordinated harassment against critics, using intelligence from the police and NISS to attack them online. Stop using the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi as a shield for dictatorship. Kagame's regime deserves scrutiny, not sacred cow status. Criticism is not treason. Silence is not justice.#Kwibuka32

Dear Rwandans, Dear @EmmaClaudine Attn: @CityofKigali Urban order and human dignity must go together. Saying that street vendors or people forced to sleep outside “should simply not be there” ignores a basic reality: they exist because of unemployment, poverty, and lack of opportunities. Removing them from the streets does not remove the problem. A modern city is not defined only by how clean its streets look, but by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens. Real leadership is not about hiding poverty, it is about addressing its causes. Such arrogance toward vulnerable citizens from a public official is deeply troubling. When state representatives show contempt for people struggling to survive, it calls into question their sense of responsibility and accountability in public office. PS: IYO AHAZE IMISORO Y’ABATURAGE , NTACYO YAKOZE NTAZIKO UBUYOBOZI BUDASHOBOTSE BIRI MU NGARUKA Z’UBUKENE DUFITE. @kigalitoday @xtr_africa @SamKabera @KabagambeI @KUpatriot @louiseuwacu @oswaki @Curious39031228
