@tomsmason91 @Wellesnetcom I think it's been tweaked here and there on home video masters but it was definitely in the original release version which I remember following that era's unfortunate color grading tendencies.

The one positive is the new scans were great so the picture gets away from the Lowry master flaws. Everything else is problematic. Frozen grain appears on three. The Atmos remixes are atrocious. The mono quality ranges from terrible to passable.

I never own this release other than the transfer of these films were good but nothing mind blowing. Of course I heard the mono mix weren’t good, but here is a big question. Should @Criterion or @ArrowFilmsVideo return to the Sean Connery Bond films and do them justice?

@FictusFilms @calvindyson Nobody knows how it happened. It’s the random edit to the opening that was done for the ABC initial airing. Apparently somebody pulled the wrong film cans of YOLT when doing the initial video transfer and nobody noticed. OHMSS itself was cut until the 1991 video master.

@Madz_Grant Funny that they completely stole the Goldmember plot reveal and yet even at the height of the 1960s spy craze, the original production team never once let the intensive competition get to them. It could be done but the modern production team couldn’t be bothered.

Bond under Craig didn’t get serious and dark, or at least it didn’t stay that way for long. They had all kinds of dumb nonsense: man-eating nanobots, a ‘long-lost brother’ plot that was basically cribbed from Austin Powers. It was just done without much humour or self-awareness

@calvindyson The bigger problem is that the Blu-ray has extreme contrast boosting and looks terrible in addition to having the same awful sounding version of the mono track and that screwy as heck messed up 5.1 remix.

@calvindyson I don’t think they’d ever get the rights clearance, or approval unfortunately. If they were allowed to make new extras, they might be able to mention it and include a clip. The only TV edit that made it out was the ABC edit of You Only Live Twice which accidentally made it to CED
