#uwcnf #BuckBasinFire on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District grew to approximately 230 acres yesterday. Fire is burning in heavy dead standing fuels in mixed conifer and aspen stands. Resources made some good progess on building an initial anchor point to build off of for future shifts. Air support helped with bucket drops until weather picked up and were unable to continue in the afternoon. The fire is located in Buck Basin 4 to 5 miles northwest of the Currant Creek Reservoir. Red Creek Mountain Road FS080 and Low Pass Road FS106 are closed to the public at this time. Resources on scene: two engines, two Type 2 crews, two Type 1 helicopters, scoopers, water tender and a grader will be assisting the operations today. The cause of the fire has been determined as lightning. Crews were in the area today working on the northern section of the fire. At this time, there are no reported threats to structures or communities. Smoke is visible from Highway 35 and 40 and surrounding area please do not report.

June 2026 was cold at both ends of the planet. The High Arctic (north of 80N) averaged -2.2C (28F) for the month -- by far the coldest June in DMI record books dating back to 1958. The cold began in mid-May, held through June, and even now in mid-July the High Arctic is still failing to start its melt season. The other end of the planet was cold too. Data show below average temperatures across much of Antarctica in June 2026. Vostok averaged -69C which is almost 4 C below normal. The South Pole averaged -60C which made for its coldest June since the historic 'coreless winter' of 2021. July has now stepped colder again with Concordia down to an anomalous -74.2C on July 12. June 2026 was not a global heat story as the media would have it told. It was record cold at the top of the planet with below average winter cold at the bottom.

New Incident: Grizzly Ridge Fire is burring in the Vernal Ranger District northeast of Grizzly Ridge Yurt. Dispersed campers in the vicinity of Grizzly Ridge, Bassett Springs, and the neighboring radio tower should be prepared to relocate. No evacuations or closures are in place at this time.
