So long as we start to give a little game time to some in the next season or two - we’ll command similar fees. One or two will stay and we build the team around. Turns out we can sign Bergvall without impacting the Tonali profit if we wait until mid August. Luckily at the pace we move, that shouldn’t be an issue. All aboard the Bergvall train - departs next month. #nufc

🚨 🤓 IMPORTANT RE BERGVALL: UEFA has made a very important change to their player swap rules which is directly relevant to Bergvall and Newcastle. Previously, any deals between the same clubs in the same window were captured as a player exchange. But on 1 June 2026, UEFA changed the rule. Now if you wait 45 days, it is not automatically a player exchange. Opens the door for a Newcastle deal. Under the old rules, it would have made it commercially irrational to trade Tonali and Bergvall between the two clubs. UEFA rules remain important for both clubs a) NUFC are in a settlement regime so can't afford discounted player trading profits (Tonali) and b) both clubs expect to be back in Europe in the future where this Summer's trading profits will be used.

If we sign Lucas Bergvall, it means we will definitely need to sell Lewis Hall or Bruno Guimaraes. For that reason, it won’t happen. Probably just helping Spurs get what they want from Forest. #nufc

I don't know in terms of profiles/squad building what this signing would mean, but he's good.
For what it's worth, I'd rather spend ~£50m elsewhere.
If he signed we'd have great MFs though:
Bruno (if he stays), Miley, Ramsey, Steur, Joelinton, Willock (leaving?!?), Bergvall.

#NUFC have £46m bid for Lucas Bergvall turned down. He's got a very complete profile. Constantly wants the ball even under pressure, good on the half-turn, plays without fear despite his young age. He's made it clear he wants to leave Spurs this window, would be a nice pickup.

@CoachMeron We can’t bring in a n2 when EJ isn’t ready to start obviously. Plus it’s a false value in having a set n2 as it doesn’t push the younger, arguably more talented keeper enough.
There has to be genuine competition to bring the best out of them both

@CoachMeron This summer the spend is higher on keepers because of Howe’s disaster management of the goalkeeping department. He’s recruited almost every season and not managed to bring in an adequate n1.
Wilson now has to spend fairly big to fix that and have a quality, hungry n2

I’ve never really understood Howe’s strategy with our goalkeepers.
And this summer it looks like we’ll have two bright young goalkeepers fighting for the number 1, potentially costing a combined £50m (minimum!)
Couldn’t we just have brought into an experienced cheap number 2?
