@RealJohnShoe @mattyglesias Uh? What? Both changed their maps both are gerrymandered what’s the point?
English

@DanVickHimself2 @mattyglesias It already exists in law. Texas changed their map legally for the first time in decades independent of any other state action.
Virginia explicitly changed every single seat to retaliate against other states.
Which map in Virginia was gerrymandered? Before or after?
English

It is EXTREMELY bad that Republicans repeatedly blocked a national ban on gerrymandering.
Gerrymandering is bad, and Republicans are profoundly blameworthy for its continued existence.
YA@YesternightPost
@constans It makes no sense how all the liberal influencers can’t even say that gerrymandering is bad anymore. Not even @mattyglesias is calling it bad. Nakedly partisan.
English

@mattyglesias So you’d be perfectly ok with Republicans passing a national ban on gerrymandering now?
English

@grok @mattyglesias @JamesCostopoul1 @grok reassess which states are the most gerrymandered in terms of deviation from partisan fairness, but using only raw actual numbers — no MSU Partisan Advantage Tracker, no efficiency gap, no seats-votes curves, and no complex models or simulations.
English

@McHeartattack3 @rahmdphd @mattyglesias Would hate to be this poor fella when D advantage in the house is 30 next election 😂
English

@rahmdphd @mattyglesias “I want my side to come out ahead”
“No way, we don’t believe you”
No retard, YOU want to lock in the gains with “independent commissions” that would give us maps like the old California one (less proportionate than the new Texas one btw) and Massachusetts.
McHeartAttack@McHeartattack3
@rahmdphd @mattyglesias I want republicans to gerrymander to the max because democrats much closer to maxed out than republicans
English

@RealJohnShoe @mattyglesias Looking forward to your support of national bans on gerrymandering. I’ll wait
English

@mattyglesias Every single person on all sides knows Virginia is a gerrymander. It's either excused or not excused. 9:1? Really?
English

@batess @mattyglesias The margin was under 100K votes that’s not “overwhelming”
English

@blahEhhGee @mattyglesias You know, we could just have bipartisan redistricting reform at the national level. But Republicans don’t want it for whatever reason (mostly evil and stupid)
English

@mattyglesias Texas redraw potentially moves Dems from 34% of seats to 21%, a 13 pt mover
VA redraws moves Reps from 45% to 9%, a 36 pt move
English

Why is Michigan such an unattractive place to move? It's one of the most beautiful states, has one massive metro area and 2-3 booming smaller metros, a diversified economy, extremely affordable housing, a top tier flagship university, etc

Here's a map of the % of people born in their state of residence. Highest in the Midwest and Louisiana, and lowest in the West (with Nevada at the bottom) and Florida.
English

@ThatchEffendi Totally!!! The young are cosplaying 2013 up there! Someone called it colonial Williamsburg for hipsters lol
English

I'm in Logan Square, Chicago's answer to Williamsburg, and it's genuinely surreal how little has changed since like 2014. I joke about being The Last Hipster but there's a bunch of guys here who really just seem to be stuck in the early-mid 2010s.
This was kind of the fashionable neighborhood for young millennials back then, but I guess a lot of the millennials stayed and stopped paying attention to trends once they hit their 30s, so it just became the Millennial neighborhood. The only people who seem to pay attention to the ways fashion has shifted in the last decade are queer men and women, and even then it's really most noticable if they're under 35.

@MarkMazman @DuPageCountyGOP @SafeSuburbsUSA Hi goofball, then I’m with the Democrats protecting my rights to develop on my land!
English

@DanVickHimself2 @DuPageCountyGOP @SafeSuburbsUSA Hi silly. The gop has nothing to do with actual policy in Illinois. The state is run by democrats.
English

The Democrats’ BUILD Act will allow developers to bring apartments to single family neighborhoods. They would be allowed to do this by right … ie no public hearing. Local authority will be tossed aside and suburban mayors are furious.
What say you? Are you ok waking up tomorrow to find an apartment next door?
See example below.

English

@MarkMazman @DuPageCountyGOP @SafeSuburbsUSA So you’re for the Communist GOP gov restricting my property rights??
English

@DuPageCountyGOP @SafeSuburbsUSA Ignoring everything except his own mania for oppression is a hallmark of the Pritzker administration
English

@DuPageCountyGOP Are you opposed to property rights? Didn’t realize I was voting for the DuPage Communist Party

@DanielKayHertz Long Island City isn’t exactly the world’s coolest spot, it’s just anywhere on train can support tons of new construction in NYC metro (see Jersey City - arguably cooler than LIC)
English

we should be less impressed with ourselves for Fulton Market
emily north@north0fnorth
i don’t think enough people outside of nyc know they pretty much built an entirely new skyline across the east river in queens over the last 15ish years
English

@Eric_Erins @LostChiDem @minc798 This appears to be the same address as mentioned in original tweet… are there 2 buildings converting? Surprised there’s any office left down there because resi is so desirable. Printers Row does rock…
English

2 more loft office buildings downtown just sold to a developer to convert them to 107 total units
1) 542 S Dearborn - turn into 14 story building into 74 units in Printer's Row
2) 445 W Erie - turn into 33 units
2028 completion target.

@chicagotribune Another solid leadership move from our favorite gov
English

Gov. JB Pritzker’s ambitious housing plan for Illinois: More four-flats, looser rules chicagotribune.com/2026/04/12/jb-…
English

@minc798 @ebelow @1980Bvchi @Pres_Chicago I’m really interested to see when the dam breaks for late night retail / food options in the central loop. Maybe never but the expanding footprint will be fascinating
English

@DanVickHimself2 @ebelow @1980Bvchi @Pres_Chicago Adding a couple thousand more permanent residents and probably getting a few businesses around there to stay open later will 100% increase the feeling of safety at night around there as it won't be as much of a ghost town (especially if some retail places stay open later)
English

@CitizenVMachine @Eric_Erins Is it Pritzker’s fault we have lack of inbound migration because the state isn’t warm? Last year we handily beat the US average also
English

@Eric_Erins Actually, under Pritzker, Illinois GDP growth ranks in the bottom 10.
English

It’s kind of a shame JB’s government hasn’t been concurrent with strong Chicago leadership
Democrats Deliver@DemzDeliver
🚨 NEW: Illinois has surged to the 13th best state for Business, up from 30th.
