What insane news to wake up to. This genuinely was not on my radar at all. Going to need some time before I have real thoughts to share but all I can say right now is that perhaps this is a good thing. Yzerman’s vision as GM the past 3ish years has been questionable at best.

@OhNyquist If you tie 11m to Cat and 15m to Robo you start to run out of runway and dont have a 1c or obvious 2c. I kinda understand. And without an extension it's a hard no.

I can see Yzerman turning down a Larkin for Robo swap if he doesnt want to commit big money to 2 wingers. Cat is going to cost you $11m. If Robo is $15m you have 1/5 of your cap tied up and no obvious top 6 C. You run out of runway pretty quickly. #LGRW

The Yzerplan clearly didn’t work, Larkin has requested a trade and Debrincat is a year away from being an UFA. Yzerman has been reluctant to trade Larkin for futures but he should seriously consider just tearing it down, taking futures for Larkin and flip Cat between now and the deadline to the highest bidder. Outside of Raymond, Seider, and possibly Edvinsson, this roster long term without Larkin is really really bad

@Ry0vum @jrh002DFS We’ve had center issues the entirety of his time here. Hes no longer an awful contract with the cap exploding and he’s an NHL player for sure, but he’s always been disappointing here and was paid much more than a 3C when he signed

@jrh002DFS Can you explain how copp is a bad contract? He is paid like a 3 c and has been playing as a 2c for most of the contract. He doesn’t score but is good in the dot and defensively.

@m_bultman @jmwall24 Yeah but they lost scoring in Kane, and added an injury prone forward to replace him. If it’s an upgrade it’s barely one. With Larkin gone they will need a 1C, a 2C, and a first line winger. Outlook looks terrible right now

Response to the wise @HockeyWithDevin 1. Regrettably, fans are always disappointed around here, it seems. People get angry if the Wings sign players, and people get angry if the Wings don't sign players. 2. I'd say that Patrick Kane's odds of returning are 60-40 to the positive... 3. I'm not expecting much other than a "journeyman" goaltender being signed (to help Postava and Augustine, and possibly to spell Gibson), if not some bottom-six forwards. That's what's out there, and those are the kinds of players who are willing to come to Detroit right now. 4. Add Carter Mazur to that mix, as Devin noted last night. He wasn't qualified, but he's still going to sign in my opinion.

@REF1972 @JPhoenix7 That’s still not a good package. Assuming you get a single first for Wallstedt, that means the Larkin return is 2 late firsts, another mid-late first, and a young center with no reasonable expectation of being better than third line. That’s horrible

Hmmm. If it’s anything like what we’ve seen before now involving Wallstedt, Stramel, a 1st plus, it’s no wonder Yzerman isn’t rushing to pick up the phone here. MIN just don’t have what DET need to get the deal done.
