@JJ_McCullough @mapleblooded Well you guys already gave him a reason. People didn’t vote for backroom deals or a majority. You should want an election now, right?

@mapleblooded I mean he can say he wants a more stable majority, because I imagine a majority of one will just continue the Ottawa narrative of drama and intrigue in an unstable parliament.

I don’t think Carney wants a majority government of one seat. That’s barely any more stable and secure than a minority government of one seat. I think he wants the temporary relief of a one seat majority as he plots an election to win a true majority.

Population growth for Canada is projected to be around 0% Thanks to a reduction in permanent residencies issues each year and a push of non-permanent residents out of the country

@BagelPolling Yeah, it was similar when Brexit hit the UK. All it takes is a charismatic leader and a favourable issue set. We are so much better off addressing there concerns than dismissing this.

@BagelPolling How does this compare to support for independence in other provinces or states? Quebec had their referendum 30 years ago and it’s looking like they’re gonna be staying even with the retards in the PQ pushing another.

The party is starting to move in the right direction. Carney getting a majority by floor crossers might be a merciful blessing if the party takes the opportunity to learn from it.

Y’know, on reflection that Havel anecdote in Carney’s speech was dumb. Havel was talking about ordinary people paying fearful deference to an ideological dogma they secretly don’t like. I don’t think the average Canadian thinks much about the “rules based international order.”

@The_Clermontian This is a great question! We spend so much money letting non citizens use our services for free or just straight up giving them welfare. Its mind boggling.

Cost of living, deficits, and immigration, three of the CPC's top issues can be solved with one simple trick - cut welfare for non-citizens. Use half the savings to reduce the deficit and the other half to cut taxes/increase CCB or other targeted transfers.

Destiny approaching a subpoenaed witness in what appears to be a stalking incident is insane. @laurendelaguna should strongly consider a police report or protective order if she is serious about this actually being near her workplace.

@David_Moscrop Obviously a terrible idea but the ideas being proposed by politicians these days are all so recycled and stale it is refreshing to see proposals different from the boring old slop we've become accustomed to (again, even if the idea is insane and terrible like this one).

@Martyupnorth_2 So if the budget passes will you see this as a mistake?

Martyupnorth®- Unacceptable Fact Checker
Why the Conservatives voted to defeat it. The Bloc's amendment called for rejecting the budget on grounds that it failed Quebec by not: 1) Increasing Old Age Security (OAS) payments for seniors aged 65–74, 2) Boosting federal health transfers to provinces (specifically demanding a 6% escalator), 3) Repaying Quebec approximately $814 million related to the scrapped consumer carbon tax, 4) And including stronger climate change measures. The Conservatives joined the Liberals to crush the motion for strategic and policy reasons, effectively propping up the minority government on this vote. Why? Note: The Bloc (22 MPs), NDP (7 MPs), and Green Leader Elizabeth May voted in favor. Avoiding an immediate election on the Bloc's terms. Supporting the Bloc's amendment would have toppled the government right then, triggering a snap election. But that would have given Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet massive leverage to negotiate concessions from the Liberals (e.g., OAS hikes or health transfers) during the next election campaign. Conservatives didn't want to hand the separatist Bloc that power or let them claim credit for forcing changes. Strong policy disagreement with Bloc demands: Conservatives oppose the Bloc's big-spending asks, viewing them as fiscally irresponsible giveaways. They actually reject all the proposed amendments....as do I. Aligning with the Bloc would contradict their platform of deficit reduction and lower taxes. (this is a big one) Keeping pressure for their own showdown: Pierre Poilievre's team wants to defeat the budget themselves on November 17, framing the fight around their criticisms (high deficits, insufficient oil/gas support, no broad tax cuts). Voting down the Bloc first neutralizes Quebec-specific grievances and positions Conservatives as the main opposition voice. So as we head to a final confidence vote in 2 weeks. The Liberals stand for the budget. The Conservatives stand against it. The Bloc, NDP, and Green stand against it (in theory), after the last vote. The question becomes; Will the Bloc and NDP be hypocrites, and vote for this budget?
mistersunshinebaby@mrsunshinebaby

🚨 Today, Conservatives voted against the Bloc amendments that would have TRAMPLED the Liberal government. “Pierre Poilievre’s caucus single-handedly kept the Liberal government from being defeated.” Is this what you were expecting from the CPC?
