Why do politicians who complain about "respecting taxpayer dollars" never seem to be consistent about it? We all remember Rob Ford talking about free zoo passes, etc. Doug Ford thinks Niagara councillors making $47k is too much, but $100M+ in ad spend is a-ok. #onpoli

Male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria in Germany show a keen interest in forming relationships with local women, but the local women show little interest in forming relationships with them. Germany, in particular, received over 1,4 million refugees between 2014 and 2016, predominantly from Muslim-majority countries such as Syria and Afghanistan. The majority of these arrivals consisted of young, single men within prime marriageable age brackets. This study examines partnership preferences of male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria who arrived in Germany between 2014 and 2016 and female residents of similar age. Overall, our results indicate a high level of openness among male refugees towards partnering with female members of the resident population, but a comparatively low level of openness among the latter towards partnering with recently arrived male refugees. This implies a substantial incongruence in partnership preferences among the two groups. Regarding the educational level of a potential partner, we found that all respondents prefer highly educated partners over those with lower levels of education. This suggests that, for refugees, securing a highly educated partner might serve as a means of upward social mobility and integration into higher-status networks in the host society. Furthermore, it is possible that highly educated women, due to their greater exposure to diverse social environments and potentially less discriminatory attitudes, are perceived as more open to intergroup partnerships, making them a more attractive choice for refugees seeking acceptance and social integration. On the other hand, the reluctance of resident women to accept partnerships with refugees is largely explained by their rejection of the ‘imported’ religious Islam. It is possible that resident women perceive the religious practices of newly arrived refugees as different from their own, reinforcing a social distance that limits intergroup partnerships. Moreover, this reluctance might not only reflect religious differences but also concerns about gender norms or perceived lifestyle incompatibilities.

This shouldn’t be a hot take Absolutely no high-level sports league should have “an official betting partner” in any capacity The NFL did away with official sponsorship from cigarette/tobacco companies in the 1990s; it’s time to do away with sponsorships from gambling companies

@CanadianPolling Was immigration an option on this poll? If not, the federal government is obviously the correct answer.

@sailaunderscore Easily one of the worst and most harmful rulings in SCOTUS history. Every defence of it seems to amount to “companies find a way to administer IQ tests pre-hiring anyways” which is not a very good defence of a ruling.

A Japanese Manager Once Told Me: “We Fire Employees Who Arrive on Time.” I laughed. Then he explained why—and it completely changed how I see success. I first heard this in Tokyo during a business dinner. I asked why being late is such a serious offense in Japan. He replied calmly: “We don’t fire the late ones. We fire the ones who arrive exactly at the start.” The table went silent. In my culture, arriving right on time means: • responsible • disciplined • professional In his culture? It means passive. He explained: “If you arrive at 9:00 sharp, you’ve waited until the last possible second.” That tells us something important. It tells us you didn’t plan for: • traffic • delays • uncertainty • responsibility beyond yourself And if you don’t plan for uncertainty… you can’t be trusted with systems. He said something I’ll never forget: “Only the weak arrive in the last minute.” Not because they’re lazy—but because they think in limits, not margins. Japanese companies don’t value accuracy. They value anticipation. A professional arrives early to: • settle the mind • read the room • prepare mentally • show readiness Not to rush in out of breath. That idea stayed with me. And once I noticed it… I couldn’t unsee it. The most successful people everywhere, no matter within which country: • arrive early • stay calm • observe first • speak last They’re already present before others even enter. They build trust before the meeting begins. They notice details others miss. They create opportunity before others react. That edge compounds. Showing up early isn’t about time. It’s about mindset. Exactly on time says: “I did the minimum.” Early says: “I came prepared for reality.” Business, and life, require margin. When someone says, “But I came on time,” I no longer hear discipline. I hear the limit of their thinking. Japan understood this long ago: Success begins before the clock starts. Will Americans and Germans and many others relearn these self-explanatory principles? The question going forward is: Will YOU continue with the behavior of the Have-Nots, or choose the behavior and success of the Have-Yachts? Bitcoin. 🟠

JUST IN: ICE agents tried to enter the Consulate of Ecuador in Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier today, according to reports. In a statement by the Republic of Ecuador: "This morning, the Consul of Ecuador in Minneapolis reported that at approximately 11:00 a.m., an agent from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) attempted to enter the Consulate’s facilities. Immediately, Consulate officials prevented the ICE officer from entering the consular premises, thereby ensuring the protection of the Ecuadorians who were present at the consulate at that time and activating the emergency protocols issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility. As a result, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic immediately submitted a formal note of protest to the Embassy of the United States in Ecuador, requesting that acts of this nature not be repeated at any of Ecuador’s consular offices in the United States."
