URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP A young Burundian woman identified as ININAHAZWE ALINE from Kirundo Province is currently stranded in Saudi Arabia after allegedly suffering rape, physical abuse, exploitation, and abandonment following her recruitment for domestic work. According to her testimony, Aline traveled to Saudi Arabia through a recruitment agency called Tejes based in Carama. She left Burundi on January 5, 2026 and arrived on January 7, hoping for a better future. Instead, she says she endured repeated beatings, harsh working conditions, denial of medical care, and sexual violence. Despite informing the recruitment agency about her suffering, she claims no effective action was taken. Aline also alleges that she was raped by force by a male member of the household while being threatened to remain silent. After attempting to escape and seek police protection, she says she was returned to her employer, beaten again, and later abandoned. Today, she remains vulnerable and fears for her safety. This testimony was shared during an online interview with Burundian human rights activist , who continues advocating for the protection of Burundian women working in Gulf countries. A Burundian woman currently stranded in Saudi Arabia is calling for urgent help after allegedly being raped, physically abused, and abandoned following her arrival for domestic work. The woman, named ININAHAZWE ALINE originally from Kirundo Province, Bugabira Commune, and formerly living in Muzinda, Mpanda Commune, says she traveled to Saudi Arabia through a recruitment agency known as Tejes, located in Carama. She departed Burundi on January 5, 2026, and arrived in Saudi Arabia on January 7. According to her testimony, the abuse started shortly after reaching her employer’s home. She claims she was beaten repeatedly and forced to work under harsh conditions without rest. Despite repeatedly informing the recruitment agency about her suffering, she says she was told to “be patient.” The victim further explains that she became seriously ill, suffering heavy bleeding and severe pain, but her employer ignored her condition and instead locked her inside a room after assaulting her. In her statement, she also accuses a male member of the household of raping her by force while threatening her with a machete-like weapon to prevent her from speaking out. “I tried to escape and ran into the street seeking help from the police,” she says. “Instead of protecting me, they returned me to my employer. I was beaten again, forced to place my fingerprint on documents I did not understand, and then thrown out.” She says she later wandered the streets for hours with nowhere to go until a man took her in, promising her work for a very small salary because she had no other option. The woman revealed her story during an interview conducted through social media with Daniel Mugisha, a human rights activist widely known for advocating for the rights and protection of Burundian women working as domestic workers in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries : docs.google.com/document/d/1zu… . UPDATE! On Burundian Women Sent to Work in Saudi Arabia Good news — the three Burundian women we have been advocating for, who had been stranded after leaving Saudi Arabia, are now safe and continuing their journey back home. After being mistreated and abandoned, the victims had only been provided with partial flight tickets by an Arab sponsor, which brought them as far as Kenya Airport, where they later faced serious difficulties and detention-like conditions. Following public advocacy efforts and an interview conducted by Daniel Mugisha, who is well known for supporting victims of abuse and injustice, important progress has finally been made. Mariam, the owner of #Ardarwish_Agency, who reportedly resides in Kenya and whose agency had facilitated their travel to Saudi Arabia, personally arrived at the airport in Kenya on 10/05/2026. She transported the women in her own vehicle and helped them reach a bus heading to Uganda. On 11/05/2026, the women were released from the difficult situation they had been facing. They were first taken to a restaurant for meals and later accommodated in a hotel while waiting for their bus ticket. They have now received bus tickets scheduled to depart from Uganda at 17:15 heading to Burundi. We sincerely thank everyone who raised their voices, shared the information, supported advocacy efforts, and contributed in any way to ensuring that these Burundian women were rescued from danger. It is deeply heartbreaking to learn that three Burundian women who were sent to work in Saudi Arabia through the agency known as #ARDARWISH_GENCY, owned by a woman identified as #Mariam, are currently detained at an airport in Kenya under very difficult and inhumane conditions. According to testimonies the victims shared during an interview with... Daniel Mugisha, these women endured severe abuse and mistreatment after arriving in Saudi Arabia. They reported being physically assaulted, having their phones confiscated to prevent them from communicating or seeking help, being denied proper food, and being forced to perform hard labor without adequate care or basic human dignity. What is even more alarming is that, according to the victims’ own statements, Mariam was fully aware of these abuses and allegedly played a direct role in the suffering they experienced. The women stated that many of these actions were carried out under her instructions. We strongly condemn all forms of human rights violations and exploitation against Burundian citizens seeking better opportunities abroad. No Burundian deserves to be subjected to such cruelty and abandonment. Therefore, we urgently call upon the Embassy of Burundi in Kenya to intervene immediately and assist these three Burundian women who are currently stranded and detained at the airport in Kenya. They deserve protection, support, and safe assistance as Burundian citizens.
