HANDGUN RECOVERED DURING GAITHERSBURG CAR MEET: A driver was arrested early Saturday after Gaithersburg police responding to a large car meet-up at the Metropolitan Grove MARC Station found a loaded handgun inside of a car🚨 Gaithersburg Police were dispatched to the station in the unit block of Metropolitan Court at about 3:48am on August 1st after receiving a report of a noise complaint. When they arrived, police found a gathering of more than 100 vehicles in the parking lot. As officers entered the area, many drivers left the lot and dispersed into nearby residential neighborhoods. While helping clear the scene, an officer spotted a driver committing multiple traffic violations and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, the driver told the officer there was a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. Police said officers recovered a loaded Taurus G2 9mm handgun with a 12-round magazine and one round in the chamber. Three additional rounds of ammunition were also found during a search of the vehicle. Investigators determined the driver was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where formal charges were filed.
