@RockChartrand If a company is making a profit, then by definition, their workers are productive. Yet somehow, the idea of everyone sharing those profits is tantamount to us murdering your mother.

"Living wage" is an emotionally loaded term. It implies that anyone unwilling or unable to pay the demanded amount is condemning people to death. In reality, it's simply a demand that low-productivity jobs pay more than the market currently values them at, with the costs shifted onto employers, consumers, and the unemployed who get priced out entirely.

It’s really not that hot in the uk. It’s just that everyone goes up to everyone and says “wow it’s hot” and then we all convince each other it is. At a conference in London this week it’s all people could talk about. Wear natural fibers, walk a bit more slowly, enjoy feeling warm. It’s dry heat , it’s wonderful . It’s humidity that sucks

My wife and I almost divorced over a GPS. We were driving to a wedding three hours away. I like to “feel” the route. She likes precise instructions. The GPS said, “Turn left.” I said, “That doesn’t look right.” “It’s literally satellites,” she said. “I don’t trust it.” I drove straight. Ten minutes later, we were on a gravel road next to a cornfield. She stared at me. “Feeling it now?” “It’ll connect back,” I insisted. It did not. We missed the ceremony. We walked in during cocktail hour. My friend said, “Glad you could make it.” My wife said, “Ask him about the scenic tour.” On the drive home, I handed her my phone. “You’re in charge,” I said. She smiled sweetly. “I know.” We’ve used GPS ever since. And every time it says, “Recalculating,” she looks at me. I just keep driving. Silently. Confidently. And in the correct direction.

@DonteStallworth I'm not being rude, just giving you some info: choosing one from those five would make you what we call a "glory supporter". It's derogatory. You should try to find/develop a personal connection with a team, but you are free to make your own decision. Good luck with your choice!

It’s time, I need to pick a Premier League team! I’ve been locked into the World Cup since I was drafted in ‘02 and the global games from Copa to Euros to AFCON for over a decade Narrowed it down to: Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, or Man Utd. Who should I choose & why?

@iam_biglad1 I am begging one of these capitalist knobheads to explain in detail how millions of people struggling on minimum wage are ALL supposed to get better jobs. It's always about the individual and never the collective. Min wage jobs need doing as well, or the economy would collapse.

Minimum wage is supposed to be enough to support someone comfortably. That's what it's made for, not this ridiculous notion of it being an entry level thing only for teenagers in high school. That’s a lie

@rebekah_e_s As a general rule, you support the local team, because every city, town, and village has one. This isn't set in stone though, and is less true now than it used to be. If you have no local connection, then picking your friends team is an acceptable option. Or kit colour combo!

@AkaBateman Win the Olympics? You tally the medal table differently to everyone else, so it makes you look better. You send more athletes (and have more funding) than probably any other nation. If all countries sent the same number of well-funded athletes, the story would be different.

@DavidBHayter I liked Warrior Nun. I think the Netflix cancellation that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me was Shadow & Bone. It's always Scifi and Fantasy that struggle most.

In addition to all the obvious reasons quoted by many... The purpose of a Digital Streaming Site should be to BUILD A LIBRARY of films and shows people want to revisit -- Not a wasteland of promising shows that get cancelled before they satisfyingly end (*cough* #WarriorNun).

@Hebdo2015 @KonstantinKisin So what you're saying is that workers get exploited by billion dollar corporations. Which is the point, even if I didn't make it well.

Yep. Without dozens of billion dollar football fields (built by thousands of middle/working class people), and a bunch of billion dollar corporations selling video of the games on those fields (broadcast by thousands of middle/working class people), Messi ain't earning $100 million per year. And just because Messi can't fire any of those workers doesn't mean they didn't get "exploited", in the lingua franca of the commie libtard. @DanielTStocks

Fascinating. Messi earns around $1.5 million *per week* from football + football-related commercial deals. Who do you think builds the stadiums he plays in? Makes the kits he sells? Mans the cameras which broadcast his "product" to the world? Cleans the dressing room he changes in? Makes the food supporters buy in the stadium? Brews the beer fans buy in the stadium? Sells the beer fans buy in the stadium? Cuts the grass he plays on? Makes the boots he wears and the millions of replica boots he sells? All of these people's labour goes into making him $1.5 million a week. What do you think the ratio of his weekly earnings is to those people? He earns around $80 million a year from football alone which is approximately 5 times the average top 500 US CEO so by your logic he is FAR more "exploitative" than they are. The fact that you don't understand this proves my original point perfectly. Thank you for your help.
BoudaSmoke@DanielTStocks

@KonstantinKisin No Konstantin. It's because Messi doesn't have a thousand employees doing all the football, then he gets to keep all the football money. He actually MAKES the product he is selling. He also doesn't set the prices of the tickets. This is not true for business owners like Bezos.

@cosmorxn It is impossible for all low earners to get better jobs. What do you suggest as an alternative? That a bunch of rich fucks and corps build the houses so they can get richer, because theres no ownership there, either? Or maybe millions of people can go live in tents in the woods?

Maybe I’m just stupid or whatever, but won’t building a lot of council houses just reduce people’s incentive to work hard to buy their own home? And if people don’t own the place they live in, won’t they also be less inclined to maintain it, improve it, and take pride in it? And won’t this ugliness and disorder have downstream effects on society (ie the broken windows theory)?

This is peak single-mother delusion theater. Your “superhero” mom didn’t protect you. she brainwashed you with 14 years of lies so she could play victim martyr while probably chasing deadbeats and collecting welfare. Real dads leave because the mom is unbearable, and faking child support just teaches kids to simp for frauds instead of facing reality. You handing her $20k? Pathetic l move rewarding her for turning you into another broken man who worships toxic female “sacrifice.” Bet dad dodged a bullet. Single moms create weak sons who glorify their dysfunction. change my mind.

Dad left when I was 6. $0 child support. $0 calls. Mom told me every year: “Your dad sends $400. It’s in your college fund.” I believed her. For 14 years. We were broke. Food stamps. Section 8. Hand-me-downs. But every August, $800 would appear for school. “Thanks, Dad,” I’d text the dead number. Mom would smile and say: “He loves you.” I got into a $68,000/yr state school. Full need aid + “Dad’s money.” Move-in day, I hugged her. “Tell Dad thanks.” She broke. Right there in the parking lot.

This is because the anti-capitalist left is not actually against people being crazy rich. They're against certain types of people being crazy rich. Artists and athletes make sense to them because they've played music and sports and because their success can be explained by "luck" and "talent". Messi's wealth is not offensive to them because they understand Messi is much better at football than they are. But when it comes to business, the anti-capitalist leftist has no framework for understanding why Jeff Bezos might be super rich since 99% of them have never ever created a product, business or service that was of value to other people. They've never taken entrepreneurial risk. They've never employed people and felt the burden of responsibility that comes with that. They've never pick up a business and given it a play in the way they've picked up a ball or a guitar. They *literally* don't understand wealth creation. They think there is a fixed amount of money and the only thing a business does is split it unfairly. It's why they rage at Elon and other successful business leaders. Because they genuinely don't understand why they're wealthy. Also, and this is just as important, athletes and artists are disproportionately young, attractive, "diverse", left wing etc. Business leaders are "evil" middle aged white men whose success offends the average anti-capitalist leftist because they don't understand a) what it is they do and b) that Elon Musk has the same talent advantage on them as Messi does, it's just harder to measure.

It’s criminal the CEO makes 400X what the average worker makes but it’s perfectly fine that Taylor Swift makes 100000X more than the people who clean the arena after her concerts. A just society is one that rewards the exceptional qualities of the musician but not the executive.

This post must go so hard if you’re stupid. Capitalism didn’t just build the iPhone, it made it possible. Capitalism raised the capital, took the risk, and coordinated the vision. Labor showed up because that capital arrived first. No capital, no factory. No factory, no jobs. Capitalism > Socialism every single time.

This is the City Barge pub in Chiswick right now. What do you notice? It’s 3pm and they’re open. It’s a sunny day. Yes, that’s right; they have had to remove all of the tables and chairs outside. They have had to destroy their own business. Why? Because Rick Rowe, a Green Party councillor on Hounslow council, who lives very, very, very close to this pub and complains about it almost daily, has banned all three pubs here on strand on the Green Chiswick, from having outside tables. I can only assume he hates pubs, hates business and hates the British way of life. This would usually be buzzing with people enjoying their afternoon. However, they’re the wrong sort of people for Rick.

Seems worth emphasizing to the Amy Coney Barrett defenders that while yes she has had some good decisions that I’m grateful for, she has twice this week ensured that American elections will not be secure for Americans. First, she ruled that ballots that arrive days after election day can be counted (ensuring that malfeasance can occur) and she has now also ensured that any illegal or Chinese national who can get on American soil can then leave this country, raise the child in an atmosphere of communist propaganda, and send them back here to vote in American elections when they are adults. Both are extremely bad and your Amy Coney Barrett appreciation posts aren’t going to stop me from saying it.
