@fmeyrath @bethanyjbabcock I haven't used them for cobbler or other sweet treats. I've only used a Dutch oven for the camping meals like chili or beef stew.

The kids are getting older and we are exposing them to more current events.
Naturally, the discussion of politics came up.
On the way to school the question came up. “Are we republicans or democrats?”
I told them every so often two circuses come to town to sell tickets. Whoever sells the most tickets gets to decide how things run in the town for a while.
In order to sell tickets they will try to align with our deepest core values and convince us that the other circus is actually attacking those.
And sometimes it’s true. But sometimes, a lot of times, they just want to sell tickets.
Once you buy a ticket, they will want you to sell tickets and it will feel like everyone that buys a ticket for the other circus is no longer your friend.
The kids will eventually discover that they often have more in common with one circus than the other because of their value system.
That does not mean they have to blindly accept everything in that tent.
Some performances are convincing. Others are sincere and essential but we need to remain skeptical and remember their goal of the ticket sales.
Sometimes the ring leaders are charming and intelligent and a lot of times we see the show and check to make sure we bought the right ticket. We might even sneak next door and realize it’s just as bad over there.
The most important thing is that we know we are not lifetime members of either circus and we can’t let the circuses ruin our town. A lot of our friends might go to the other circus. They are still our friends.
We are individuals with core values.
We should be free to respectfully talk about our value systems and beliefs to challenge ourselves and others. That’s not circus talk, thats talking about our town.
But above all, we must avoid joining the circus’ marketing machine. Because in the end, as the backstage crew knows, to them we are just product.
So for my family, I want to focus on discussing concepts and beliefs and how they shape where we live, not the circuses.

Wild to think I got my license in February… and now my first commercial deal is under contract 🙌🏽
It’s still early in the process, but I’ve learned how important it is to celebrate the small (big) wins.
This came from a cold call I made in early May.
Now, that same buyer (I connected in November of last year) is showing me the ropes—walking me through their entire due diligence process.
Relationships really are everything in this game.
