This isn't the first time we've seen cases linked to the Philippines or IS-Philippines in the West: 2014: "Forty-four-year-old Swedish citizen Nathan Benoitzon, who was born in the Philippines and was previously known as Bherlin Gildo, is arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport for taking photographs in Aleppo, Syria, near corpses of people killed during combat in December 2012. In the photos, he points his weapon at the corpses and makes “victory” signs. Benoitzon denies wrongdoing, stating that others told him to pose next to the bodies. He had traveled to Syria in early October 2012 and joined a group of Swedish foreign fighters. While in Syria, Benoitzon posted images and videos of himself on the Facebook page of a jihadist group, Kataib al-Mujahideen, whose members later joined the Islamic State. He reportedly remained in Syria until February 2013. Initially tried in Britain, he is acquitted and released. The Turtle Island Liberation Front—a far-left, pro-Palestine, anti-government, and anti-capitalist group—was preparing to conduct a series of bombings against multiple targets in California beginning on New Year’s Eve. The group also planned to target ICE agents and vehicles. This was an incredible effort by our U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the @FBI to ensure Americans can live in peace.
