Inside Hurricane Milton, @saildrone reported wave height of 28.12 feet and wind gusts as strong as 75.95 mph while 40 nautical miles from the center of the storm. This research represents a collaborative endeavor to better understand the role of the ocean in hurricanes.

#Hurricane #Milton has made landfall near Siesta Key, FL - the 5th US Gulf Coast hurricane landfall this year (Beryl, Debby, Francine and Helene are other 4). This ties 2005 and 2020 for 2nd most Gulf hurricane landfalls on record, trailing only 1886 (6 Gulf hurricane landfalls).

Hurricane #Milton has made landfall near Siesta Key, #Florida. Wind gusts up to 100 mph are being reported. Dangerous flash flooding is occurring or likely soon in several areas, especially north of the eye in the Tampa Bay region. Storm surge flooding at the coastline will continue to rise in some areas, with max inundation not occurring until *after* landfall in some places. Be aware and be careful tonight.
