We laid a good man to rest yesterday. Biodun Jeyifo who died about two weeks ago at 80 was first a good human being, as well as a thorough going scholar. Popularly known by his initials BJ pronounced BeJay, he was friend to old & young.

Baba Elepo the Rock of Gibraltar When it was time for my father and his wife, Mama Tunji, to leave for home , I watched as Baba Elepo searched for his orthopedic walking stick. He found it beside his chair and, with visible effort, pulled himself upright. His eyes met mine, and he smiled, extending his arms. I understood immediately, he wanted me to pull him ,I grasped his hands, helping him to his feet. He didn’t let go. Instead, his fingers tightened around mine , a silent request for me to walk him to the car. As we moved slowly, his weight leaning on my shoulder and his other hand gripping the walking stick, I couldn’t help but marvel at the moment. This was Baba Elepo, my father, the athlete, the footballer who his teammates called the Rock of Gibraltar , the man whose reputation on the field was simple: “If you miss the ball, don’t miss the leg.” . I still remember the afternoon I crossed a line (I’ve long forgotten what I did). After my punishment, he decided to finish the lesson with a few boxing jabs. When I instinctively blocked his blows, he paused, eyebrows raised, “ oh so on block mi ? Meaning “Oh, so you are blocking me?” he asked, surprised. I quickly dropped my guard and took the rest of my punishment. This was the same man who taught me to change a car tire. When his car had a flat, he handed me the spanner and told me to remove the nuts. I strained with all my strength, but they wouldn’t budge. Without a word, he took the spanner and turned each nut effortlessly. After changing the tire, he asked me to tighten them. I did, confident I’d secured them well. He checked, then tightened them further, each one moving under his grip as if I’d barely touched them. This was the father who once carried my younger sister and me on his shoulders, as if we weighed nothing. Now, here we were. The walk to the car was slow. He paused occasionally, looking at me with that gentle smile. I wondered what memories filled his mind, but his joy was unmistakable. This moment was everything life is about, the passing of time, the shifting of roles, and the quiet grace of acceptance. I thought of my own life. I still train and fight Judo almost every Saturday. I’ve won gold medals and a silver at an international event in the U.S. three years ago. As a third-dan black belt, my children, including my late son Adams fight Judo. I’ve fought them all and I’ve beaten them all. But lately, a question lingers . Did I really beat them, or did they let me win? After all, I still pay their school fees.😂🤣 The Yoruba say, “Makan makan loye nkan” gradually, it becomes your turn. My generation is feeling it now. Stairs that once seemed effortless now slow us down. Jogging has become jeje walking. My friend Olumide, who once drove at reckless speeds, now moves carefully, earning the title “Baba”from those around him. Knees buckle, reading glasses become necessary, and doctors warn us away from foods we once loved. Our parents, who once seemed invincible, have shown us their humanity. Now, it’s our turn to care for them. This is the beauty of life makan makan loye nkan.

The confusion between Ugbo (a coastal Yoruba group) & Igbo (SE Nigeria) is being cleared up. Some Yoruba dialects even pronounce Ugbo as Igbo, swapping ‘U’ for ‘I’, complicating things. Those who ought to know even offered populist, ahistorical explanations. Scholarship is now clearing it all up.

𝗨̄𝗚𝗕𝗢̀ of ANCIENT-IFẸ̀ ≠ 𝗜̀𝗚𝗕𝗢̀ of SE-NIGERIA‼️ 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧-𝟭‼️ The term "𝗨̄𝗴𝗯𝗼̀" is the name of one of the diverse tribes that make up the Yorùbá ethnic group. See 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝟭 for the accurate tone [𝗿𝗲|𝗱𝗼] of the name . . . 𝗔 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: This Yorùbá term (i.e. "𝗨̄gbò") is equally vocalized as "𝗜̄gbò" in some other Yorùbá dialects, such as: (a) 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵-𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, i.e. Èkó ("Lagos"), Ìbàdàn, Ẹ̀gbá, Ọ̀yọ́, Òǹkò, & Ìbàràpá dialects, etc. (b) 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵-𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, viz. Ànàgó dialect, Àwórì dialect, Ìdâṣà dialect, Kétu dialect, & so on. This is because, words with 𝘂-initial do not occur naturally in NW-Yoruba, & in SW-Yoruba dialects Rather, they occur naturally in the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹-𝗬𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 (e.g. IFẸ̀ dialect, etc.); 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵-𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 (e.g. Ìlàjẹ dialect, etc.); and 𝗡𝗘-𝗬 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀. Some popular examples of this dialectal variation between: CY dialect, SE-Y dialect, & NE-Y dialect (all on one hand) 𝘃𝘀. NW-Y & SW-Y dialects (both on the other hand) are respectively: 𝗨fẹ̀ vs. 𝗜fẹ̀ (a place name), 𝗨ṣu vs. 𝗜ṣu (yam), 𝗨lé vs. 𝗜lé (home), 𝗨̀wà vs. 𝗜̀wà (character, existence, & riches, etc.). See: 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝟮 for some ‘𝗶 initial’ vs. ‘𝘂 initial’ cases from O. Akinkugbe, “A Comparative Phonology of Yoruba Dialects, Iṣẹkiri, and Igala,” Ibadan, 1978; and from Ayọ Bamgboṣe, “Yoruba: A Language in Transition”, J. F. Ọdunjọ Memorial Lectures, 1986 By 1843, 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮-𝗞𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲́ began to be developed for 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 by S.A. Crowther, et al., & this 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 form is based largely on NW-Y dialects—but with its own unique features See 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝟯: J. G. Fagborun, “The Yoruba Koiné-Its History and Linguistic Innovations, 1994:24-5 Due to their wide-renown, the NW-Y dialects and Standardized-Yoruba have come to complement, & sometimes replace the CY, SEY, & NEY dialects This got so commonplace that even 𝗨̄gbò natives sometimes (although rarely) self address as 𝗜̄gbò, as could be heard from the Ugbò chief in 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝟰 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: Both "𝗨̄gbò" & "𝗜̄gbò" are Yorùbá words, & they’re one and the same Yorùbá name of a Yorùbá tribe . . . Having proven that both 𝗨̄gbò & 𝗜̄gbò are one and same Yorùbá-tribal-name, our next-steps involve critiquing the 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 that this (𝗨̄𝗴𝗯𝗼̀/𝗜̄𝗴𝗯𝗼̀) is one and same as the 𝗜̀𝗯𝗼̀/𝗜̀𝗴𝗯𝗼̀ ethnicity of Nigeria This is discussed extensively in 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧-𝟮‼️culling evidence from physiography, archaeology, the Ifá corpus, other oral-traditions, & vitally, etymology. Below is a sneak peek into what 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧-𝟮 holds👇🏾 ———— . . . ••• Archaeological evidence in the light of the Ifẹ̀ oral traditions add that this Ifẹ̀ Bowl (valley) is already water-logged (or swampy from seasonal-floods) by circa 500AD. A group in the area yet preferred this water-logged valley for their abode, while the other group in the area preferred the dry-lands of the bowl’s “Rim”, viz. the hilly space (which had a lot more settlements, as it is suitable for farming) between the valley below & the inselbergs above. The group in the water-logged Bowl are the 𝗨𝗴𝗯𝗼̀ (𝗜𝗴𝗯𝗼̀), while the group on the hills are the ••• Repost & stay tuned for 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧-𝟮‼️ tomorrow 🔥 Cheers🥂✌🏾

@ruzh242424 @RealCandaceO You do realize Haretz is an ISRAELI newspaper, right? Headquartered in TEL AVIV. Do they “hate Jews” for breaking a story that literally involves IDF testimony?

Nobody needs to tell you why Governor Seyi Makinde is earmarking N63.5 bn to renovate the government house in Ibadan. Makinde has already expended 76% of his time in office; he became governor in 2019 and will leave in less than two years. Makinde and his deputy, by the way, have lived in their private residences throughout their tenure. Renovating an edifice you don't live in and when you're on your way out with the equivalent of the state's 2024 IGR? You and I know why Makinde needs that N63.5bn; you want me to say it but I won't. Say it yourself!

A New Chapter for NIPOST and Nigerian Logistics I am incredibly delighted to share a major milestone from my work as the Postmaster General of NIPOST: We have officially signed a direct international mail partnership with @KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a milestone that marks the first of its kind in many years. For a long time, @NipostNgn operated without any direct partnerships with international airlines, relying heavily on multiple third-party handlers. This often resulted in delays, higher costs, and uncertainty around the delivery of packages. With this new partnership, KLM will now handle our outbound international mail directly, with no middlemen involved. For our clients at @NipostNgn, this translates to: Faster and more reliable delivery Reduced risk of loss or damage Lower handling charges Access to over 200 countries through KLM’s global network This breakthrough is possible because we have begun clearing longstanding debts owed to international carriers. We are actively working to rebuild global trust, and this partnership is only the first of many doors that will reopen. Furthermore, we are currently in strategic discussions with Ethiopian Airlines to serve our African and Eastern routes, further strengthening our regional and continental logistics framework. Our goal is clear and unwavering: to connect Nigeria regionally and globally, efficiently, securely, and affordably. A Major Win for Nigerian Businesses & SMEs If you run a business, export goods, or sell products online, this development is for you. You now benefit from: Quicker, more affordable international shipping Greater peace of mind with improved reliability New potential to reach and grow in global markets This is our signal to you: "Change of Renewed Hope Berths at NIPOST Shores" A more capable, transparent, and globally connected NIPOST is here. I remain grateful to the incredible teams working diligently behind the scenes, and to every Nigerian who continues to believe in our mission. We are not just delivering mail, we are delivering solutions and moving Nigeria forward. #NIPOSTxKLM #DeliveringSolutions

Finally, a Pope who can sing! Leo XIV leads the Lord’s Prayer in Latin, at Mass with the Cardinals earlier this morning. Pope Francis couldn’t sing at all (some say he was totally musically tone deaf). You’d never catch him singing any part of the liturgy. His predecessor Benedict XVI who loved to sing, couldn’t ever stay on key, in spite of his hard efforts. Fresh air!
