@Cave_Escaper @dannycantalk btw I take the question as "people are pressing by their own free will and have understood the premise". if we include accidental inevitable blue presses, maybe it would be the moral thing to save them. But if there arent, there is no one to save, no blue button necessary

@Daraen993 @dannycantalk If people are going to include children and infants in this conundrum who cant even understand the question, then I am going to include free will. Tell me what is compelling me to press either and why should I respect them enough to comply?

For red pressers: The test is over. Red button won. You don't know by how much. You are randomly selected to get one last chance to save everyone. If you press the red button again, nothing changes. If you press the blue button, only you die and everyone else lives.

@Cave_Escaper @dannycantalk what is compelling you is the premise of the question lol. You can say "I refuse to participate" from outside, but you cant say "if I was there, I wouldnt participate". If you are playing Mario, you can save or not save Peach. But you cant rebel against Bowser for making you play

@Cave_Escaper @dannycantalk no you cant walk away, mental experiments dont have a system or a "whoever" selecting anything, except yourself. There is no "walk away" option in the mental experiment of "press one of two buttons" (actually, the red button is almost that in this specific case)

@dannycantalk I rebel against the system and press nothing, instead I use force against whoever "selected" me and ensure they cannot continue forcing others to play their sick little game. Everyone just accepts these scenarios and chooses the static options, you can always walk away.

You are in a room with one other person. They are behind frosted glass. You both have the standard red and blue buttons applying only to the two of you. They seem awake and alert. You are not permitted to communicate. What do you press?

@oqayowoqwq why is 100% votes for red impossible? red: nothing happens blue: nothing happens if more than 50% vote blue, if they dont, you die why would anyone choose blue, assuming they understand the question, of course. Accident presses introduce an initial blue population of non agents

@joshscorcher and so far not a single blue presser has been able to make a coherent argument why red pressers should switch. The side of 'empathy' seems to have none. All they need to do is form a coherent case for blue winning. No guilt trip, no threats. Can you assure them blue wins?

@Daraen993 @foidvoid @Simberg_Space @Chrispyy_0 Because you, on the moon, have just the same horizontal velocity as the moon, and miss the Earth every time, in just the same way. You have to drastically decrease your horizontal velocity in order to avoid overshooting the Earth as you fall.

@foidvoid @Simberg_Space @Chrispyy_0 it is in orbit, it wants to hit the earth but has enough horizontal velocity to miss the hit every time. I dont see how that has anything to do with the energy it takes to go to earth from the moon, or to the sun from earth

@hills_don1 sure. I give then energy (build me a gym and put turbines on the machines lol) + superhero savings + alien tech + visits to other planets + if they dont, thragg is gonna kill them. And the cost is exactly what? Sounds like a no-brainer

Would You Accept? Thragg offers you a pill that makes you a full-blooded Viltrumite, but you must bring Earth under Viltrum rule. You have 50 years and can do so however you see fit. Thragg will honor your methods as long as Earth submits willingly. If you decline the offer, Viltrumites leave Earth alone. If you accept and fail, Thragg colonizes Earth his way. Which do you choose? If you accept, how would you bring Earth under Viltrum rule?

@Daraen993 @MalazanColtaine Brandon Sanderson is known for absolutely filling his books with worldbuilding to the point that each of his books is 1000+ pages. He's come up with completely novel ecologies, economies, societies and religions. For him to suddenly drop the act and just use "december" is odd.
