@miggi @figma We found a work around by using "fake" aspect ratio autolayout from the community files inside the Image container component.

@miggi @figma For image use case for instance, our cards have several aspect ratios. In practice, they can be set up to any column span on a grid on the CMS side. In mockups, we had to find a way to reproduce this effect with the cards resizing but the ratio staying true.

Happy Tuesday to all of you wanting aspect ratio locking in @figma! When was the last time you wished you could use aspect ratio lock? What were you trying to accomplish? What is the context in which the object lives (and what came before it, lol)? Thanks in advance!

@buriedsignals I won't take credit for prototyping the entire story in Figma by myself. A good part of the work was laid down by Tommaso Renzini. But yes, I usually prototype the entire design (and interactions) in Figma before development.

@danmall 1 month project are fast-paced. They're rewarding because I get to see the results faster but they're often less impactful. They're less likely to get delayed. I like how they help me keep my cash flow high since the payments are closer in time.

@danmall 6 months projects are super rewarding because they give us bigger scope = bigger impact. But they often become larger, clients/team gets less motivated with time etc... Also, payments milestones are further apart.

Freelancers/agency owners! All other things being equal, what would you prefer? A 1-month project that pays you $10k or a 6-month project that pays you $60k? If you say it depends, tell me why.

@Data_Soul @superfriendlyco I opted for no balance. “SuperFriends first” was a common mantra. We prioritized our team and figured if we were fulfilled and challenged, then clients would get the best of us.

One year ago today, I shut down my agency @superfriendlyco that I ran for the previous decade. A lot has happened over the last year, for me and so many others. Whaddya wanna know about running an agency—or not running one? Ask me anything.
Dan Mall@danmall

✏️ After 10 years, 9 months, and 6 days, it’s time for me to shut down @superfriendlyco. To the hundreds of clients and SuperFriends whose paths I’ve been lucky to cross in the last 10 years: thank you for everything. danmall.com/posts/superfri…

I’ve gotten a few messages about some help with #design system planning. Would anyone be interested if I did a free webinar or something similar around some of my tips for design system planning for the next year? Reply with 👋 if that’d be useful for you.
Dan Mall@danmall

I’ve been talking to a lot of #designsystem teams lately that are in the middle of planning for how they can make an impact in 2024. What’s on deck for your design system in the new year? What impact are you most excited about? Where are you stuck in planning?

I’ve been talking a lot lately about my new products where I teach #designsystems, so a lot of people have been asking to see design systems that I’ve made. That’s a fair and reasonable request! In tomorrow’s newsletter, I’ll show my design system portfolio to 28,200+ subscribers. It probably doesn’t look like what you’d expect. Subscribe here to see it: danmall.com/newsletter/
