Kabul, Winter 1988/89 picture thread. I won’t be adding to much context to these, but most show DRA troops and the withdrawal of the Red Army. All found on Getty images.

@BuschModelar Have you tried to luck for images of bombs or rockets pods from Nepal unrelated from Mi-17 footage? Just to see what may have been available

While it is plausible the helicopters used some locally made munitions dropped from the ramp instead, the presence of racks makes me convinced whatever was used was deployed from the outside pylons. Of course I'd be forever grateful to anyone who would solve this mystery!

Very rare photo of Nepalese Royal Air Force Mi-17V-5 registration RAN-53 with racks, early 2000s. Nepalese Mi-17s reportedly flew a number of bombing sorties against maoist guerillas during the 1996-2006 civil war. So far I've been unable to find the armament they carried.

The Taliban air force Mi-8MTV-1 serial 792 crashed in the province of Ghor on Wednesday, 15 May 2024. Delivered to the Soviet-supported regime in the 80s or early 90s, this machine was one of the oldest-serving helicopters in Afghanistan.

@RedFighter242 Rare stuff! Would love to see a breakdown of armoured vehicles in the Congo in the 1990s.

🛡️South African–manufactured RG-31 “Nyala” 4×4 MRAP vehicles belonging to the Congolese Armed Forces. During this period, there was confusion in Congo 🇨🇬 regarding the vehicle names, between the RG-12 “Mamba,” operated by the police since the early 1990s, and the RG-31. 1/2

@dig_ren @M4RDUK_701 Any T-54 will have a mushroom-shaped radiator on the roof for example. M or not.

@DavidDetten @M4RDUK_701 That's what I was thinking because of the loaders hatch, it didn't look like a t-54 to me. What actually makes a T-54M if this is T-55 mod 1970?

@M4RDUK_701 @dig_ren This is wrong, T-55 hulls frequently feature this as well. This tank is a T-55 obr.1970. Easiest identifier is the MG cupola style. Also, Nicaragua never received T-54 tanks.
