I wonder if Bromine gets a big ego knowing that the default “b” key goes to it instead of Boron?

@TyroChemist @Astro_Wright It’s convention to draw aldehydes that way in most contexts. I don’t know the reason why, but I’d guess it’s to emphasize the difference between other carbonyl compounds, especially ketones, which are ostensibly “the same”, but not nearly as electrophilic.

Hey chemistry Twitter: why is there a H explicitly labeled in the skeletal formula for Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate? Every resource I can find says lone Hs bonded to C are *always* left out, but every diagram for it has it there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerald…

@if_leach These orbital illustrations are beautiful. How were they made?

@sp3intermediate Does intermediate 30.3 have one extra oxygen? Treating with Isobutyric anhydride should afford the aryl isopropyl ketone. Looks like the problem is fixed after hydrazine condensation, where the bonus oxygen disappears

@McallisterBri That is amazing. Each frame of the red one looks like it was hand drawn with copics.

PDB: 6WV5 An exploration in different styles and multimedia with #b3d and #procreate ! There’s so many different ways to make proteins, molecules, and other biochemical components look aesthetic via various art programs ☺️✌🏽 #sciart #scicomm

@geordifrere @KCGOrtiz @ndchiappini If you assume that all of the steps of the mechanism are reversible, then, as you implied, all you need to do is find a way to get the morpholine and the sulfur to switch places. Here's my guess. X = SR or H, Y = SR or morpholinium, Y- = RS- or morpholine.

Can anyone find/propose a plausible mechanism for the "chain-walking" Willgerodt-Kindler reaction? The only mechanisms I can find are of acetophenone derivatives which don't show the "mid-game" (i.e., non-termimal) translocation and set up for the next phase of the chain walk.

@StatedClearly @ChemBarkPaul @Evolutionistrue Or, maybe he meant that researchers who have devoted their lives to advancing their own hypotheses on the origin of life are unwilling to be frank about how improbable their “prebiotically plausible” chemical systems really are.

@StatedClearly @ChemBarkPaul @Evolutionistrue I don’t know the context this was stated in, but if I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he meant that admitting our ignorance on the topic elicits unwelcome “God of the gaps” type arguments, or worse, makes funding harder to obtain.

Um... whom, exactly, is Davies talking about & how does he not see that the act of calling one's self an origin of life "investigator" 𝑰𝑺 admitting the origin is a mystery? This petty behavior needs a tag, I suggest #TempletonBro @DavidFialho @ChemBarkPaul @Evolutionistrue

@StatedClearly @Sara_Imari I think is a good analogy. I also think that, while we will eventually fully understand the general principles, there are historical details to the origin of life on Earth that we may never know with certainty.
