Today is the 60th birthday for @AlabamaFTBL legend Cornelius O’Landa Bennett, but true Crimson Tide fans refer to him as “Biscuit” because he always had room for one more. Born Aug. 25, 1965, in Birmingham, @realcbennett97 excelled in football, basketball and baseball at Ensley High School, before signing with the Crimson Tide and becoming a foundational player in 1983 for new Alabama head coach Ray Perkins. After moving to linebacker, Bennett became a three-time, first-team selection to the College Football All-America team. As a senior, he won the Lombardi Award and SEC Player of the Year honors. He finished his Alabama career with 287 tackles, 21.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries (which might have been four if the officials had made the right call on sack of Steve Beuerlein in 1986). The Indianapolis Colts selected Bennett second overall in the 1987 NFL Draft, but then traded him in a three-way deal to the Buffalo Bills where he became a five-time Pro Bowl player.
