I used the color data I already had on this galaxy and stacked about 10 minutes worth of exposures to create this animation. You can see how close the supernova is to some nebulae in the arm… imagine the view from there!

Hubble observed a curious linear feature that was first dismissed as an imaging artifact from the telescope’s cameras. But follow-up observations reveal it is a 200,000-light-year-long chain of young blue stars created in the wake of a runaway black hole: bit.ly/3JTk7Ma

And we didn't just find interacting galaxies. By accident, we found all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Like, jellyfish galaxies, gravitational rings, edge on protoplanetary systems and even some supernova remnants. Many were already known about, but some were not!

My first first-author paper came out yesterday on the ArXiv! This one is about work I did at the European Space Astronomy Centre @ESAesdc, looking for interacting galaxies in the Hubble Space Telescope archives. Link here: arxiv.org/abs/2303.00366

@vrooje @NASAHubble I was so stressed out about sending these emails, but it really has been a great experience. Lots of folks not just giving citations to use but asking about the work, and engaging in discussion. It feels very collaborative and science-y! For sure the best of astro.

After a very long wait (from pre covid times), my application to become an Irish citizen was finally approved! I'm finally an Irish and, therefore, EU citizen again!
