Burrows is going to be the speaker nominee of the GOP caucus (and it won’t even be close) and will be elected speaker again (this time without Democrat votes). What will the rage bots shriek about then? Getting elected speaker in opposition to the majority of the GOP caucus sets a really bad precedent and could seriously undermine conservatives in the future….especially if the GOP margin in the House is smaller and someone like Ken King and a handful of the most liberal Republicans might be tempted to team up with the Democrats. We don’t want to be in a situation where King, Darby, Geren, et al can hold the rest of the caucus hostage….which is why it’s so critical to 1) Strengthen the GOP majority 2) Replace moderates with conservatives in primaries But for now….what we got with a Burrows speakership was exactly what we would’ve gotten with a David Cook speakership: A LOT better than Phelan but still not nearly far enough or fast enough. You can recognize the progress and fight for more or you can rage online.

I pray he is successful in his campaign because the alternatives are horrible. Hopefully, the delegates will make some changes to the SREC!

I have and will continue to give @abrahamgeorge a tough time, but comparatively he’s come along way on relationships within the party and elected officials. I will never be a man of criticism for criticism sake so props to him for that. And even bigger props to @Burrows4TX for being willing to forgive how he and other members have been treated.
