@PARLYapp Claims that a hemicycle might reduce the adversarial nature of parliament are based on a geometry which is simply not present in the Australian House of Representatives.

@PARLYapp Yes, now you can see the long straight government front bench. It’s not a semicircle. Front benchers address the house directly facing the opposition at the dispatch boxes which are visible. The configuration is very similar to the House of Lords.

The House of Commons is organised in such a way that an MP is either government or opposition. That’s fundamental to its culture. How would redesigning the chamber change that?
Adam Payne@adampayne26

Ellie Chowns, new Green MP for North Herefordshire, says the House of Commons should be re-designed as a hemicycle She tells @_tomscotson a full decant should be the moment to overhaul the chamber, inc getting rid of the voting lobbies to free up space politicshome.com/news/article/g…

@PARLYapp The Australian House of Representatives is not a hemicycle. It is two opposing benches just like in Westminster. The chamber does curve around at the end, but that’s not where the main players sit. The camera angle posted is simply misleading.

A circular seating arrangement does not necessarily mean less partisan politics. The Australian House of Representatives is a hemicycle and at there’s what one might describe as a robust culture in their parliamentary politics.

We could get all uninsured/untaxed/no MOT vehicles off our roads in days simply by requiring petrol/electric stations to do a numberplate check before issuing fuel. But yeah the problem is scooters and eBikes.
TheGreatCordwainer@zombiestyled

@BBCBristol Illegal scooters and e bikes everywhere. Why are the police so lame.

@PhilipProudfoot Raising tuition fees gets you almost nothing unless you also substantially raise repayments, which would be toxic.

Great graph in the Financial Times. The only point at which Britain was building 300,000 homes per year [Labour's target] was when we were building council houses. Private accommodation has remained relatively steady. It is council homes that dropped off.
