Update, based on statements from NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny: Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related. 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore's father has links to members of the Money Over Everything gang in the Bushwick Houses (NYCHA). The gang, known as MOE, is in the middle of an ongoing dispute with a crew Amuri Greene (the suspect who was taken into custody) is associated with. They operate out of the Marcy Houses (also NYCHA). Greene is a known gang associate from NYCHA’s Marcy Houses, police said. Cops are investigating Kaori’s dad’s connections to MOE and if Greene was aiming at him when he killed the man’s daughter. “We’re still looking into that. We know that he [Kaori’s dad] does have an association with some other [Money Over Everything] gang members,” Kenny said. “He is not in our criminal group database as an MOE member but based on the geography and where he was at the time we are looking into that.”

Cop shoots to death sex offender convicted murderer as NYPD raids Bronx apartment ────────────── An NYPD officer shot to death a convicted murderer and sex offender who brandished a gun as cops raided his Bronx apartment early Thursday. Lucian Colon was holding a pistol when the officer shot him in the face, Deputy Chief John Wilson, the commanding officer of the NYPD’s Fugitive Enforcement Unit, said at a press briefing after the 6:45 a.m. incident. “I have a gun! It ain’t going to happen!” Colon repeatedly yelled at Warrant Squad officers as he sat on his bed, holding the pistol, after cops entered his apartment on Willis Ave. near Bruckner Blvd. in Mott Haven. After nearly two minutes of cops trying to deescalate the situation, Colon raised the weapon in his hand and was shot by one police officer. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he died. Colon had violated his parole and had an active warrant for failing to register as a sex offender when police showed up at his home Thursday morning. A woman in the apartment allowed officers inside. The entire exchange with Colon in the bedroom was caught on the cops’ body-worn cameras and the NYPD released a photo of the firearm they recovered. “The officers told him to show his hands,” Wilson said. “He responded ‘I have a gun.’ When we ordered the male to step out of the room, he responded ‘Not going to happen.'” “We showed extreme restraint and gave multiple commands but he failed to comply,” Wilson said. Wilson said Colon was released from prison in 2023 for a murder from 2013 and remained on parole. He was also a registered level 3 sex offender after he was convicted of rape in 1997. In 1995, he was also convicted of attempted murder. Level 3 sex offenders like Colon are considered “designated sexual predators” by the state and need to submit updated photos of themselves to the state sex offender registry every year. I’ve been reporting on the use of scooters in crimes for years , and they’ve been linked to a wide range of incidents. Today, they were reportedly used in the murder of a 7-month-old baby. According to police sources, officers are restricted from pursuing scooters due to safety concerns, including the risk of injury to those riding them. I have personally observed scooter robbery crews openly disregarding officers, appearing confident that they will not be pursued. It’s hard to understand how, in 2026, law enforcement does not yet have a clear and effective strategy to address this ongoing issue.
