@webdevMason The rub here is that some people feel a duty to meet their partner halfway, and some people get angry at the suggestion that such a duty could possibly exist
(On both sides of the high/low libido divide)
English

@HistoryBoomer As background, the most famous survey finding that conservatives understand liberal positions better than vice versa, was Jon Haidt’s circa 2009. This was before the political realignment on education that started around 2014. And recent research hasn’t replicated those findings.
English

@HistoryBoomer Relationship discourse is unfortunately dominated by people who seem to have generalized anger at the opposite gender.
English

@HistoryBoomer Will might be worse, but the OP was a performative jerk to the people who disagreed with her—in a tone that probably can fairly be described as misandrist.

@etubruton This is a reasonable take, but average difference between the sexes are so great that there would be few marriages if matched libidos were a prerequisite.

English

my (~unique) enlightened centrist™ take on this discourse:
1) it is just not ideal for relationships to have mismatched libidos like this. sex should not be viewed as something either partner rewards the other with. it should be a mutual need that is being met, and mismatched libidos make that lens very difficult.
2) with that said, I think a *significant* amount of mismatched libido cases are because men don't know and/or care how to give women orgasms. the statistics on "do you regularly have orgasms when having sex with your spouse" between married men and women are absolutely appalling. men wouldn't like sex much either if they never came, and I think men have absolutely zero room to complain about their sex lives if they aren't giving their wives' orgasms regularly.
3) to defend men just a little bit, I think that many things around this discourse that get labeled as specifically male behavior are actually just high libido behavior, and that just usually (but not always) ends up being the man in most hetero relationships. my wife is very high libido and literally ~every criticism of men that I've seen in the discussions around this topic would apply to her. she would be legitimately *pissed* if I initiated a makeout session right before bed and then just said "okay, goodnight I love you".
emily may@emilykmay
there's a sex therapist who has a ritual of making out with her husband every night before bed, and so many of the comments on her posts are some version of "but what if he gets turned on and I don't want to have sex" and i need men to understand and prioritize non sexual touch.
English

@aaron061116 @danielbiblenerd Yes, men should make a real effort. But you may be unaware of how much libido declines with age. Sometimes people just lose interest naturally, and it's nobody's fault, and no amount of effort can realistically change that.

English

@danielbiblenerd Just work harder if it gets difficult. Don’t use your wife to get off just because you aren’t interested in trying harder. That’s pathetic.

@sonofasven @CrazyFenaker @BeshearStan Did you even bother to look at my posts before concluding I’m on team Riley?? Going to mute you now for lacking the courage of your convictions.
English

@DeDurkheim @CrazyFenaker @BeshearStan Lia Thomas has been quiet as a church mouse compared to Riley’s crusading grift tour since that swim competition. Seems like the highest profile person should get the most criticism / scrutiny, no? You probably disagree because Riley is on your team.

@davidpdeavel @BillKristol Sarah and others with the Bulwark *savaged* Biden for pardoning his son. You, by contrast, mocked those who were concerned that Trump would pardon January 6 criminals.
English

@BillKristol You and the Bulwark are just leftists now. Stop trying to fool yourself.

This is one of the most depressing trends in Democratic Party politics. How can we credibly make the case to govern if 2/3 of our party don’t take pride in the country they want to lead?

I think it would be great if this were true but I am quite doubtful.

@sonofasven @CrazyFenaker @BeshearStan I mean nobody is stopping you guys from going on BlueSky and declaring that Thomas reminds you of a boat anchor. Let us know how it goes.

Browsing some data on this, it appears that young Republicans are driving a lot of the turn toward cultural conservatism, but I need to dig a little deeper. I might do a thread on it at some point.

@Daniel80659351 @ahmed__ycn I knew a left-wing couple in college who were planning a cross-country road trip after graduation. They decided to drive through Liberal just because of the town's name.

@CrazyFenaker @BeshearStan Among the problems with these insults is that they logically apply equally to the trans woman who tied her.

This alleged @bariweiss quote made me want to collect data:
1) 44% of Reps and 67% of Dems voters watched 60 minutes prior to Bari’s entrance
2) 21% thought it had a Dem bias, 33% no bias
3) Voters oppose efforts to make 60 minutes less biased 38 to 29
