Deepak Arora@DeepakAroraHi·
I am happy to announce the open sourcing of unify-simple-decision-table, a simple and straightforward Java implementation of a decision table. It is simple, easy to use and just about as powerful as can be but thankfully no more. It provides most of the standard out of box functionality of a decision table. You can find the details of the same here: github.com/americanexpres… We have been using it with great success internally in American Express and I hope it benefits the community in the same way. Please feel free to go through the documentation and provide feedback. Thanks for your support.

@kai_fall With respect, I beg to differ. One of the point of an abstraction is to hide the details which are NOT so important for the outside world.

@DGukesh As a senior I will only advise you to stay away from adventure and risky activities. You are now a representative of a nation with the hope, dreams and aspirations of a lot of people behind you.

@mmpadellan @SCash28251 So your family is sex offenders and Nazis because they voted to close the border? Haha man I hope everyone bookmarks these. This is even better than when you all wished for unvaccinated people to die.

I gotta say, it's pretty fucking funny to me that people are crying that they're not welcome at their family's house for Thanksgiving after voting for trump. Like no, you're NOT entitled to a nice, pleasant dinner with decent folks after you voted for a fucking adjudicated rapist whose policies will jack up prices, break up families, end Healthcare coverage, and more. I have ZERO sympathy for you Googling "can I change my vote" dumbasses after you saw the same January 6th that we did. He's the same irresponsible dick who botched the response to covid, only he's much worse now, physically and mentally. Go take your ass to McDonald's.

@CaliLogicalMind @NbergWX 1935, 1988 and 2005 storms had lower pressure than this. And god knows how many before that. So how come this is due to climate change?

🌍 Hurricane Milton, with a jaw-dropping pressure of 897mb and 180+ mph winds, is another catastrophic warning that climate change is intensifying our storms. Yet, we’re on the brink of a lunatic administration that calls it a hoax! 🤯 Even worse, conspiracy theorists are now pushing the absurd idea that these hurricanes are “man-made” to manipulate elections. 😡 The former president and tech oligarchs spew non-stop disinformation, flooding platforms with dangerous lies. This isn’t just madness—it’s a threat to our future. 🔥🌪️ The time to act on climate change and fight this disinformation is NOW. 🛑

8PM EDT: This is nothing short of astronomical. I am at a loss for words to meteorologically describe you the storms small eye and intensity. 897mb pressure with 180 MPH max sustained winds and gusts 200+ MPH. This is now the 4th strongest hurricane ever recorded by pressure on this side of the world. The eye is TINY at nearly 3.8 miles wide. This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth's atmosphere over this ocean water can produce.

@VicVijayakumar I am so sorry to hear this. I had retina detachment when I was 23. That was 30 years ago. Got scheral buckling surgery with cryo. Nowadays they do more of laser with surgery. You will be fine. Take care.

Some personal news: I was going blind in one eye, had surgery today, my wife has 4 kids this week. — Long version: I had blurry vision out of one eye on Wednesday. Felt like my glasses were dirty. Yes I washed them. Saw a specialist on Thursday. Scans showed I had a detached retina with likelihood of blindness at 100% without immediate surgery. They got me into surgery this morning and I’ve been out of anesthesia for a few hours. Post op recovery sounds just lovely. I have to be lying on my side for 5 days so I’m parked in front of the tv on the couch with a charged Kindle. This is wrecking my 10000 steps a day goal.

For the last four months I have vastly restricted my consumption of processed white carbohydrates. You know, hamburger buns, wheat thins, candy bars, etc. I eat anything else I want, including meat, cheese, nuts, salad, etc. what’s more, I eat as much as I want. I am not counting or restricting calories. I have lost twenty three pounds and am still losing. My blood pressure has fallen back to normal. For most of that time I have worn a dexcom to track my glucose. I’ve learned a lot. For example: one half of a burger bun will spike my glucose. My insulin response is good and the spike falls back within an hour. But then those stored carbs are gradually released usually starting the next morning and I see 12 hours or so of elevated glucose. Bottom line, even a moderately small consumption of white carbs wrecks the next full day of weight loss. If I eat more carbs than that, it takes several hours for my insulin response to sequester all that sugar, and then the next several days are dominated by the slow release of all those stored carbs. An hour long bike ride pulls those carbs down a lot; but if too much has been stored they come right back up when the ride is over. Bottom line: even a small carb binge will wreck weight loss for days and overwhelm the effects of exercise. If I eat a stir fry with a few noodles, I’ll see a brief spike, and an equally brief insulin response but no significant rise the next day; and the reduction of carbs induced by a bike ride remains long lasting.

If you have never used data breakpoints, don’t be telling people that debuggers are useless and they should be logging everything. Entertain the possibility that you just might not know much about debugging yet.

Amazon AWS S3 is probably the largest filesystem in the world, storing 250-1000 Exabytes of data and 100M qps. Andy Warfield wrote about building this by distributing "heat" with Reed-Solomon erasure coding, Rust-based formal verification and more. Must-read for engineers.
